Because of the class rules I can't run max turbo. What ever this problem is it's getting worse. Last week, my 1st time with the Tekin, it happened twice. I thought it was because I applied the throttle too fast after I turned the esc on.
I didn't notice the leds flashing when I manualy turned the motor. I'll try that tonight.-Thanks

motor timing at 40 degrees is way to much and you are over timed. that is why you are seeing stuttering and the motor going in reverse

Default TEKIN RS PROBLEM

I have a problem with my Tekin rs today. My car was set up for 17.5, fdr was 5.6. I swapped out my motor for a 13.5 motor but kept the same gearing, motor temp was apprx 160-170. The speedo was around 140. But my problem, I blew my capacitor. Is this normal?or can I just put another and keep going also, what cause this? Or will it need to be sent back to tekin for service?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Guy, if you want, give me a shout next time you're up at Eric's and we'll get her straightened out. We had good success with the Novak Ballistics during the VTA Nationals race. It does sound like overtiming, but we were running them cranked pretty far over during that race. The ballistic starts at what, 30 degrees of timing?

anyway, stop by and let's check it out.

Greetings all,

Finally had a chance to run the RS Pro with my newly aquired LRP X12 17.5. I could not figure this motor out. In the manual for the motor it says DO NOT run any ESC timing or boost and to gear the motor starting around 4:1. Some people at the track said to gear it at 6.5:1 and set the speedo to:

drag brake - off
rev strength - off
brake strength - 94
Neutral width - 10
motor type - BL-FW
Throttle profile - 4
voltage cutoff - 2
push control - off
timing boost - 40
turbo boost - 15
turbo delay - 0.2
turbo ramp - 3
start rpm - 3865
end rpm - 8000

Well this brought the motor temp to about 200F in about 6 minutes, I checked it every minute. about 5 minutes in, the motor began to fade.

Later in the day, someone told me this motor is a special case where current popular RS pro settings will not work, however, he didn't have any recommendation and I never had a chance to try any other settings.

I'm not sure exactly how to set the RS Pro for this motor for use on a big sweeping track ( for a pic of the track goto www.norcal-hobbies.com). Next time out I would like a good starting point for this motor from someone that has run it successfully.

Thanx for any help.

That is a REALLY short rev range, especially for low gearing. I'd say start a bit higher, and end a LOT higher to get the temps down

I had the same problem. I fixed it. I took it out and replaced it with a BOSS dynoed motor. Problem solved

I ran a new X12 17.5 outdoors and found the following settings (and the comments from the other racers were ITS FAST):

1. You need to install the X - 10 degree timing bushing (I think its 4 dots)
2. I was running with a heatsink/fan on the motor and was 150F after 8 minutes
3. Gearing for a 100-120ft straight should be around 6.5-6.8 FDR
4. ESC Settings:

drag brake - 15
rev strength - off
brake strength - 90
Neutral width - 10
motor type - BL-FW
Throttle profile - 3
voltage cutoff - 2
push control - off
timing boost - 42
turbo boost - 8
turbo delay - 0.4 (for me .4 kicked in about 1/2 down the straight)
turbo ramp - 2
start rpm - 5000
end rpm - 14500

Will the Tekin RS still work if the cap. is bad? If so what would the symptoms be? I cant rember my settings, but the car was working great on all sections of our track for two different race days then lost most of the throttle (low to mid) punch. Still had great straight speed but a real dog on the infield. We rechecked the settings and they were the same, but someone thought it might be a bad cap. or?? I know it is hard to answer with out the settings, but it worked great with its current settings for a few races, and still does except it has no in field punch like it did. Thanks for any info.

YOu should not have used the same gear. While the motor took it the cap didn't care for the "new" current spikes, which blew the cap.

Install a new one and change your gearing: TT3520

Don't run the speedo without a cap. If you can't find the right ones: TT3520 a good 16v 1000uf cap will work. They can be found at most Radio shacks.
