I couldn't pin him down on the exact rollout he's running, but I'm going to try it starting around 72mm and see how it looks.

I did run as high as 90mm rollout with 10 degree at the endbell and little or no boost, so I'm cutting way back on the gearing to avoid cooking the motor. I'll probably wind up a few teeth taller, but I'd rather sneak up on it and keep things cool...

This is 1/12 4 cell by the way.

I ran 189 last weekend in the same class. I was geared at 1.28 inches rollout (Not sure what that converts over into mm). Motor came off at about 140 degrees. I had 10 degrees in the can, and 12 in the boost, 17.5 trinity duo as well. So, if I take the can to 0, then that means more rpms, correct? Thus gearing down would make sense.

That ability is highest on the "additions" list for the hotwire functionality aswell as allowing for a simple text field.

If you take the can to 0 AND crank the boost up you'll get more RPM and want to gear down. From ten degrees in the can plus 12 boost, you're at 22, if you go to zero on the endbell, 22 boost should put you at or close to at where you were, higher than that, and you'll want to drop some teeth.

I think that 1.28" rollout has to be a typo, or a miscalculation... 1.28" is 32.5mm.

Ken, Lower timing overall means LESS rpm. That said total timing is motor + ESC and it does seem that the motors prefer low or mid motor timing and the rest made up in the ESC.
Also knowing the track and the typical roll out, you were probably at 3.28 inches which sounds about right.

So now how does this boost work? Is it a constant degree increase or does it only apply under acceleration?

Boost is a constant add on to whatever timing is in the motor. Its sole purpose is to allow you to get 35 to 55 degrees of timing that high wind motors need to make max power.
