Recently tested two Tekin 21.5 Redlines. One's sweet spot is a 4.6 and the other is a 4.2. I was about to give up on the one that likes the heavier gearing. With it geared at 4.5-4.6 the heat was around 145 but was just slow with lap-times noticeably off. Now geared at 4.2 the heat is around 120 and laptimes as good as the 4.6 motor. I could probably gear it heavier and be faster with it but the rules are limiting my gearing.

Locally we've seen Novak and Epic motors with similar differences.

I don't think you will have any issues with brakes with that motor.

So, what's the motor timing going to be at on a Novak 21.5, with the timing ring turned fully clockwise? 0 deg? Wish Novak would have marked their can.

Dunno, but for USVTA, only the Novak 21.5 is allowed.

The Tekin is a great motor.
It is as fast as the Novak but it drives much smoother.

alt-printscreen will capture just the current/active window. If you use just the printscreen, it will capture your entire desktop. From there, if you don't have a photo editor, you can just ctrl-v (paste) into M.S. Paint, crop, then save as a .jpg.

Every track is free to make their own rules for VTA. Around here, it's strictly USVTA rules, which means Novak only.

It's not that hard to figure out. The USVTA is the sanctioning body started specifically for Vintage Trans Am racing and has their own set of rules that specifies manufacturers of tires and the Novak motor. If your track uses these rules, the you must run the Novak (Lipo option) with HPI Vintage tires. ROAR is the large RC sanctioning body that many people are familiar with and has adopted the Vintage Trans Am class because of its popularity. However, ROAR does not specify any manufacturers because that would be seen as endorsing one over another. Therefore, they have lists of approved motors and tires that meet their requirements. Tracks that apply ROAR rules are more flexible even though the rules are largely modeled around the original USVTA rules.

So does your track apply ROAR rules, USVTA rules, or its own rules? Those are the ones you should follow.

The official USVTA web site is actually here... http://www.usvintagetransam.com/. Apexspeed is a personal website I believe run by one of the principles behind the USVTA sacntioning body, Doug Carter. He also started the USVTA thread (http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...acing-372.html). He can check me if I'm wrong but I think he has sold out his stuff and mostly moved on from the hobby but USVTA lives on. One thing is certain, if you would have shown up to the 2d USVTA Nationals in Winthrop Harbor this year running anything but a Novak 21.5 with a Lipo, you would have been disqualified. Anymore of this discussion truly belongs in the USVTA thread.
