Only run for a minute or so to start so to check motor temp.
wow did you just clear things up for me. This whole time I was thinking timing=boost. When you guys were talking about the timing slider, I thought it was the boost slider and vice versa.

I now have the sensored box marked and full boost at the moment. I'll test this out later.

Thanks

115 seemed a little high for about 10 laps so I gave it less gear. The motor felt like it was never fully winding out. Which lead me to believe it was perhaps overgeared.

But now that you say 4.55 for FDR in VTA Im getting a little concerned. At 4.6 I was getting blown away on the straight (far more then a .05 FDR difference would make). I'm going to have to look into what is going on. No binding or anything in the car (its shaft drive, tires spin forever).

If my math is right for your DUO motor you are running a 52MM rollout (2.05in)?? Does that sound correct. That would be about a 3.84 FDR with rubber tires. Perhaps I was undergeared rather then overgeared if my math is correct.

Tim, I'm running a 4.4 in my VTA car and am not being pulled any anybody anywhere on the track, atleast not do to motor power. It does sound like you might be undergeared, but I do not have 194, I'm running 189.

Im beginning to suspect undergeared and perhaps a flat battery. I borrowed Francis's battery and it had been fully discharged once so Im thinking maybe its not fully optimal. Reiger was killing me with speed.

I'll still need to experiement though since I had the Tekin 21.5 in my car. I'm going to wait on getting a Novak until next fall since Randy is allowing the Tekin in his VTA class. Not sure how the Novak and Tekin gears should be relative to each other.

I may put the DUO back in my car and compare to the Redline 17.5 as well. Im a lot more familar with the DUO.

Ok, I have sensored checked and boost set to max. I am noticing very little difference if any. Is this boost suppose to be VERY noticeable? My temps also did not change after a min or two of full throttle pulls.

Looks like testing will be a no go for tomorrow since it's still raining and supposed to rain some tomorrow too. I'll be out there Saturday though.

What do you mean by full throttle pulls? Are you driving the car, or just free spinning?

I noticed an immediate change in max RPM once I dialed in some boost, even more apparent on track.

What motor, motor timing, gearing and class are you running?

I'm just running it up and down my street/shop. Here is my setup:

tc4
tekin rs
losi xceleron 17.5 (afaik the motor is 0 degrees and not adjustable)
75t spur 50t pinion 3.75 FDR (losi recommends 3.8)
plan to race on road electric 1/10th TC

All these timing tricks don't seem to benefit some groups as much as others. If you're running a pan car, or on a giant track, it seems to help. With sedans on smaller tracks? All I'm seeing is heat, late-race fade and burned up motors. In general, the whole thing seems hugely overstated.

Don't the euro's just put a balloon on their electronics and go racing? Let's make it happen

Adam,

If you're overtimed you're going to create too much heat period. For a short track you should be running less timing in general. Less timing gives you more torque. Try setting up yours with 20 on the boost and 0 motor timing.

Other things to try are a setup with say 10 on the motor and 20 on the boost. Anytime you change your timing setting you MUST be prepaired to regear your car.
