I think this was posted JUST FOR ME!!!

I'll give this a try as it is pretty easy, and post back here with how it works.

THANKS!!!

What is this 1.89 firmware I keep reading about on here? I still have 1.80 firmware.

It's the recent beta version of the hotwire software. It has gotten "leaked" to some people outside of the team members... it makes firmware versions 1.83 and 1.89 for the RS available, and changes the look and functionality of the hotwire panel slightly. I saw it running on someone's laptop this weekend, from what I could see, the hotwire panel now has two checkboxes, one says "senssor mode" and the other "dual mode" where there used to be just the one checkbox, and when you have "sensor mode" checked, the "timing advance" slider changes its name to "timing boost"

Can someone from Tekin give an estimate of when the public version will be released?

Our estimate is just soon. We got beat down last time we failed on a date and have learned our lesson. There's always some forseeable problem that can cause a delay.

For those that are looking for the 189, shoot me an email and make your plee for it.....LOL. Seriously though I can release it to the ones that ask me for it:

[email protected]

I prefer that if you have a team driver in your area to speak to them and allow them to do the update. So please state your area, etc. We have drivers all over the place so it's likely I just need to steer you to the right person.

What exactly are the changes on the 189 version?
from what I read, option to use dual type, or just sensored/sernsorelss, some wording, anything else?

Okay, from what I can tell, the new version of the hotwire software replaces the single "sensor only" checkbox with two checkboxes, one says "sensor mode" the other "dual mode" which I would guess was done to make it more clear to the user. I know from helping a few guys around here that some folks didn't even know that there was a "dual" or "hybrid" mode, and didn't really understand what the sensor only checkbox meant.

The other change I could see was that now when the "dual mode" box is checked, the "timing advance" slider works and looks like it did before, but when you check the "sensor mode" box, that slider changes its name to "timing boost".

With the old version, in sensor mode, the RS used the endbell timing of your motor and added a fixed extra amount of timing which you couldn't alter. Now with the new version of hotwire, you're able to set the amount of additional timing you'll get with the slider. Ini the old version, the timing slider only had an effect on the hybrid mode. Hybrid mode uses the sensors and endbell timing only on the start, then ignores the sensors and endbell and uses the slider. Hope that was clear... it's almost 2:30 A.M here and I'm getting a little loopy...

The 1.89 version is the latest firmware revision for the RS. From what I can tell, the version 1.80 firmware worked with the new hotwire software, but changing the "timing boost" slider in sensor mode had no effect on the motor. When I flashed the speedo up to 1.89 I could see the difference that changing the timing boost slider made... a dramatic difference in RPM that was VERY apparent.

I have NOT driven the car on the track yet using sensor mode and timing boost, so I can't tell how much of an improvement is there, but on the bench the RPM's are WAY up... I'm certain gearing changes will be needed to keep the motor temps happy.

Randy,

I'd like to know if there are some version notes or release notes on the new hotwire version and the 1.83 and 1.89 firmware revisions... I got a zip file which had the software and the installation, but nothing to read... I'm one of those sissies that reads all the instructions, so if there's anything like that, I'd sure love to see it... [email protected] if you want to email it to me...

thanks in advance..

Good info!

So if I were to use sensored only mode, and the sensor wire is disconnected for some reason, what would be the timing now?

quite correct although there was no added timing on the previous versions of the software, if using sensored only mode you were using the motor's timing only.

As before, you would be running in sensorless mode and the timing would be the timing that is set when the dual mode box is checked, so it is a good idea to have that set correctly as well just in case

On the track it kicks about 4 to 6 feet out of the corner. And with no drag brake or brake strength set in it makes it tricky to plan corner speed on short straights.

Also note it is with 1/12, 4cell, Trinity based 17.5. Tried both low and mid timing. Throttle expo at 0.
Haven't noticed anything like that on the track to be honest, be in 10.5/lipo or 5-cell mod. I always found the speedo to be quite soft on the first part of the trigger travel.
