tekins site still shows 203 from dec 31st as the latest update.

I don't think Randy was talking about 208. I think he was excited about that new Salt movie with Angelina Jolie. It released at midnight.

I burned up 3 motors coming out of a main well over 210F. I took a six month break from the TC racing. Tonite was my first race again, new car EVO V MS, new Tekin w Redline motor. Well again I came out of the main at 198F, and I hope the motor can handle 1 run to that temp because I am sick of buying motors. Both qualifiers and main I tried various gearing and timing boost ( no turbo, Drag brake on 3, start at 4k end at 14k), I started (per others w RS advice) at FDR 6.04 timing 40- off at 169F, then 6.43 timing 40- off at 145F, Thinking I am going in the right direction and again from advice I went to 6.73 and timing 50- off at 198F. The class doesnt allow turbo and 5 other Tekin users all at MAX timing talking about they never go close to my temps. To top it off it was easily the slowest car down the straight. What am I doing wrong... I am sorry this is so long.
I think your rpm range is close, but you are gearing too short, imo
5.5 to 6.0 is fairly standard for 17.5 around here, so with 21.5 you should be something like that or taller, maybe 5.0 to 4.5 and 40 boost to start.

It sounds like you are getting heat from too much rpm, also explains why you are slow on the straight.

I run that motor around 3.1 with an F1 direct drive and it flies !

Also when trying new settings, it's safer to run 2 to 3 mins and temp.

Another way to find a good baseline for gearing, is to run zero boost, and gear to suit the track, then back down 1 64p tooth per 10 deg of timing for ballpark ratio.

Are you sure there's no bind in the transmission? It is quite strange to get those temperatures with your setup.

Another thing to try is to get rid of the drag brakes. Those can put out a lot of heat if they work too much. You don't mention anythign about using the brakes, and that is a factor too. Try to get the gearing so you don't have to brake through the infield. Keep the brakes for emergencies and/or a hairpin right after a long straight.

One other thign to check is the timing on the motor. I used to run 21.5 Redline with zero timing on the motor and gear for acceleration rather than top speed. You get back your speed using the turbo. I still think that is best for small tracks.

Good luck.

my 416 and evo are both super smooth no binding i can see. I dont really use brakes the drag brake is on 3 wich is almost off, but it gives me enough braking. i can try not using it. As far as motor its a brand new stock redline I havent touched it, and our 21.5 class does not allow for turbo, just timing. Its just frustrating I want to figure it out. The FDR advice and settings from the locals havent been working for me. I will try FDR in the other direction next week and hopefully my motor still good. Thanks

OK. I forgot you're not allowed turbo. Are you sure you calculate the FDR correctly?
