Default 2008 1/12th Euros, Germany

Morning,

The 2008 1;12th scale Euro champ race is now running. News that the track is very difficult and traction now just build up, a very nice venue near Audi factory. Track has many chicane. Many top driver in attendance like Moore, Rheinard, Ahoniemi, Völker and Hönigl.

BIG tyre issue: Seems that Jaco 1;12 Prism tyres are NOT legal. The diameter is much too big over the 38 mm allowed. Rear Jaco Prisms have been banned from the competition causing some issues.

Web page is here: http://www.euro.rc-racecars.de for results.

Top 5 after practice;

1 Völker Ronald DE 36 08:02.998
2 Moore Andy UK 36 08:03.309
3 Hönigl Hubert AT 36 08:08.559
4 Sieber Daniel DE 36 08:08.600
5 Hagberg Alexander SE 35 08:00.183

It seems the five qualifying rounds today are over with the last one tomorrow morning. Current top 10 are
1 Rheinard Marc 37 08:01.040
2 Völker Ronald 37 08:02.246
3 Ahoniemi Simo 37 08:06.505
4 Hönigl Hubert 37 08:06.520
5 Moore Andy 37 08:08.193
6 Hagberg Alexander 37 08:12.656
7 Griffiths Andy 37 08:13.654
8 Fischer Marc 36 08:02.607
9 Bopp Bernhard 36 08:04.670
10 Fleischmann Dominik 36 08:06.628

From what I saw at the results Ronald Völker was the fastest all day with Marc setting overnight TQ at the last round.

I think Marc is running a CRC, same for Hupo. Overall it´s CRC, HB and Corally for the Top 10 cars. I don´t think any of the top cars is an Associated.

The rear 1/12 wheels are hardly "much too big". Approximately .2mm to be precise. We became aware of this at the ROAR nationals a couple weeks ago and the mold is being modified as we speak to conform to IFMAR rules. Our original drawing shows a wheel with a 38mm outside diameter, however when it was molded, it came in at 38.2mm. I find it interesting that there is no mention of other manufacturers' wheels being too large, since I know of at least 2 other companies who have wheels that don't comply.

Regardless, I apologize to our drivers and other participants at the event who were planning on running our tires. We will get the new wheels to our distributors as soon as they arrive. If you are unable to run your current JACO rear tires, we will gladly replace them with the new ones. Despite rumors to the contrary, this was not an attempt to "bend" the rules. Our product will continue to dominate 1/12 racing.... even on a .2mm smaller rim.

Now, at the Euros, Marc Rheinard is on pole position. Ronald Völker will be 2nd and Simo has run some very fast laps will start in 3rd. Hupo Hönigl will start forth with defending champion Andy Moore in 5th. Hot Bodies, CRC and Corally chassis are having the best result. Not many racer improve in round 6 as it seem the track was not as fast as Saturday.

Regarding the wheels, as I heard, some other brands very close to the 38 mm regulations. The Jaco rim were the largest in diameter, almost 38.5 mm. The regulation is 38. Organization determine that the size of the rim would create a big advantage and was not allowed.

Interesting to see the HB chassis on top again as it shouldn't be competitive at all (at least on paper) with friction plates, effed up frontend etc...
