Had another little test with the new firmware on 1S, 10.5t, 1/12th and thanks to decibels suggestion the car has definitely picked up the pace. Rollout was dropped to 55mm/rev (lowest I could hit with that spur) timeshift was on 7 with a gain of 1, turbo off.

The car was quicker by quite a bit so I upped the timeshift to 9, much better The motor now kicks the car and make it rock in your hand when your holding it, lol. Stepped the gain up to 3 and didn't notice much difference to be honest. After that I stepped the gain back down to 1 and switched turbo to 3 and kick in to 9 and the car was flat, lost alot of it's sparkle it had with just the timeshift.

Still alot more testing to do but definitely a step in the right direction and was noticeably quicker than the non advance cars. Could do with a lower rollout for our size of hall though. The motor was barely hitting 40'c after about a 10min run with stops to change settings, the esc was up to 46'c on top of the sink when timeshift was at 9 and gain at 3 so should be good for a whole 8 min race.

Conrad,

Try to lower the kick-in setting (higher kick-in rpm) if you are running turbo.

Default motor change?

Guys,
Just a quick question.

I have RBS new firmware. Seemed to be going well with Redline motor and was happy with speed, torque and motor temps. I have changed motor to a TeamWave 10.5 and am finding the motor is getting A LOT hotter - it is too hot to touch after 2 mins. I have not changed any gearing or speed controller settings - is there a fundamental difference with team wave motors to the tekin redline (with zero timing advance on the motor).

Any help appreciated as I need to sort this before the much more GP in ireland in a few weeks.

Regards

Chris

topher2009:

Can you post your ESC setting and gearing? If the motor getting very hot in 2min, try to see any short circuit on the ABC soldering join (you need to remove the end bell to watch carefully. Also, you need to see any color change on the motor coil wire, if there are something strange in color like a bit black, that means your motor is gone and shouldn't be used anymore.

TW,

THanks for your reply, my settings are:
1/6
2/2
3/6
4/6
5/3
6/2
7/3
8/4
9/1

THe FDR is around 5.4. The soldering is perfect on the motor - also it feels as fast as the Tekin when being used, it just seems to get a lot hotter. The motor has only done 10 mins running max - I have to stop every 2 mins to let it cool down!! I should also mention that the motor has a fan and cooler on it.

Yep I guess you are right, perhaps I should go back to those settings and try again, i was just trying not to as it took a few hours to get to where i am now with the settings I posted and the Tekin motor, and to be honest, those settings with the tekin motor were just great. I dont fancy starting all over again with the team wave motor!

I wonder if I can negociate some track time this week with the wife other wise I may have to switch back to the tekin motor which is fine I just fancied a change as it has had a lot of use.

Those settings look fine to me. In fact TS 6 is quite conservative. If you had no temp issues with the other motor, there may be something wrong with this motor. You could try putting 1 or 2 more teeth on your pinion, run it for 1 min and check temps. I know it seems backwards but we found lower FDR's(bigger rollout) actually brought down temps with this firmware.

Ok so I need to increase the FDR then to around 7, can some one please educate me, why do I need such a big difference in FDR for a different motor? Is it just a difference between different manufacturers where some just like to rev higher??

To make me more confused, I thought an FDR of around 7 is how the Tekin boys run but previous posts say you cant gear the RBS the same and that you need lower FDRs!!

Wow all this new firmware makes this lot much harder than it used to be but very interesting and a good challenge to figure it all out!!

I know I post here weekly with another question but please keep supporting me! I will get there eventually and really do appreciate it!!

Regards

Chris

Well, I ran 7.0 gear on both Redline and Linear motor. At the previous post drivers ran lower gear ratio is using high time shift and less turbo. Your setting is TS6 and Turbo 6 which is different.
