Yes you can use rubber tires on carpet. Some good Carpet tires are Sorex 20R, and 24R with hpi red or green inserts. The 20R is Super soft and the 24R is just soft. Yokomo make good tires too. The yokomo 139M2, 139G2, and 139GS2 are all good tires. The M is a bit harder and lasts longer, the G is a bit softer, and the GS is the softest. Yokomo 037 inserts run great with the yok or sorex tires as well. Just remember to use traction compound inbetween each run. Just apply it to the tires and soak for 10-15min. Your car will feel glued .

Also consider the Take Off CS-27 tires. I have been using these tires since last fall, they were the handout tire for the Novak USTC, and I have also been using them ever since.

You can't beat the pricing on them, $25-$30 for pre-mounted CS-27 tires. They also work great.

My best suggestion is to see what the other racers run for a rubber compound before you buy a set. At least you'll know where to start by asking around.

If your track allows foams then get some plaids for the front and purples for the rear. I've been using TRC foams and the rims are nice and stiff, glued on well and you get decient life.

1/12 scale foam tires actually last quite a long time. And unlike most rubber tires, they get better as they wear.
