Default Carpet Chassis vs. Asphalt Chassis

Can someone tell me what the differences are? When I was in RC, these product options were not available. All there was back then was carpet and asphalt setups. Is this just another selling tactic or are truly physical differences between the two?

i think generally speaking, asphalt chassis are thicker / more rigid with less flex then there carpet counter parts.

Good examples are the standard vs itc chassis for the tc5, and then the EU vs Us t207 and t208 cars

Actually the opposite. Typically the carpet chassis will be thicker so the chassis will be stiffer. Usually you want a bit more flex in the chassis for rubber tire/asphalt.
There are differences but if you are like me and cant really tell the difference then it probably wouldnt matter too much; but if you are real serious then it probably would help out.

if you run a carpet/stiffer chassis on asphalt then your set up needs to be the best it can be as it is more noticable than running a asphalt/flex chassis
