P2k2 Gearing

P2k2 Gearing
Well, it's Murphy's law in action. One of the stock motors you like least is bound to be a handout motor at your next race. This is my story, and at the ROAR Region 11 Sedan Champs, I'm going to have to use a P2k2. What sort of FDR should I be looking to gear it at? The track is 100x60ft on well groomed asphalt (says they spray something to augment traction as well), and it's got a fairly technical infield, but most of the corners are pretty flowing. The straightaway is about 85 feet, and there's about a 45 foot short shoot too. Somewhere around 7.00-7.30 maybe?

Agreed, I'd start somewhere between 7.5 & 7.0 & go from there. Remember, since it's a handout motor, EVERYONE will have the same situation as you(& there's really nothing wrong with the P2K 2, I think it's a solid motor, quite versatile & more tolerant of improper gearing than any GM3 or Monster would be)....

Thanks for the help, I'll start at 7.05 and go from there. Anybody have a fave brush/spring combo for the P2k2? I was going to try some 767's as well as some Fantom 315's and play with springs. Also, what comm diameter does it seem to run best at? I was gonna cut it all the way down to .270" for maximum rpm, does that hurt torque?

Dont cut it all the way down there yet. If you cut it all the way down it will wear below .270 and loose power, rpm, and efficentcy. You have to remember the motor will wear and you will probably cut it every run knowing you . Get online tonight and I'll talk with ya about it.
