Default P2k2 Gearing

Well, it's Murphy's law in action. One of the stock motors you like least is bound to be a handout motor at your next race. This is my story, and at the ROAR Region 11 Sedan Champs, I'm going to have to use a P2k2. What sort of FDR should I be looking to gear it at? The track is 100x60ft on well groomed asphalt (says they spray something to augment traction as well), and it's got a fairly technical infield, but most of the corners are pretty flowing. The straightaway is about 85 feet, and there's about a 45 foot short shoot too. Somewhere around 7.00-7.30 maybe?

Think Rain City. Start at a 7.0 and go from there. I geared at a 6.8 at rain city my p2k and the p2k2 has more rpm so a 7.0 should be fine. You can always ask around over there too. Just keep a few gears on hand.

Agreed, I'd start somewhere between 7.5 & 7.0 & go from there. Remember, since it's a handout motor, EVERYONE will have the same situation as you(& there's really nothing wrong with the P2K 2, I think it's a solid motor, quite versatile & more tolerant of improper gearing than any GM3 or Monster would be)....

IMHO the p2k2 is/was the best stock motor out. I always ran the 767 brush with the red/green combo and I never had a slow one. for gearing I usually ran around a 6.4 to 6.6 depending on the track

Thanks for the help, I'll start at 7.05 and go from there. Anybody have a fave brush/spring combo for the P2k2? I was going to try some 767's as well as some Fantom 315's and play with springs. Also, what comm diameter does it seem to run best at? I was gonna cut it all the way down to .270" for maximum rpm, does that hurt torque?

Try red + /green - for the springs and 4499s or 767s, Dont cut the comm to .270" thats when you buy a new motor, you got to have both torque and rpm to make your power, and that is what matters on the track. Good Luck

Dont cut it all the way down there yet. If you cut it all the way down it will wear below .270 and loose power, rpm, and efficentcy. You have to remember the motor will wear and you will probably cut it every run knowing you . Get online tonight and I'll talk with ya about it.
