Default Pro3

Hey Zombie...which chassis do you have on that Pro3? Is it the HPI chassis with the bolt on side pieces or? Just curious. I just bolted one of those on a NIB kit I picked awhile back. I also installed a few other goodies on the chassis...gonna try and club race it and see how I do. I have another almost new Pro3 that I will be using for the HPI Camaro Trans Am body...check it out on HPI's website. It's all old skool!!!

SRAD.
chasis is the one-piece molded "woven" CF chassis. not the composite molded carbon chassis... I had the HPI optional chassis on my previous car..that chassis was super stiff..perfect for carpet racing. the HB chassis is great for outdoor asphalt.

Manny.
soon as I find some I'll let you know asap. I found all the part #.

Hi All,

Glad i found this thread! A few weeks ago i got a Pro 3 from EBay for 35. I have alsways liked a car that is a little different and when i won this i was well chuffed.

The car arrived pretty dirty and neglected, but after a good clean i was surprised to find alot of hop up parts fitted. The car has a woven carbon chassis (how do i tell if it HPI or a Hara chassis?)it also came with a front carbon upper deck, shock towers, Ti turnbuckles and MIP Shiny driveshafts (not purple ) and i think an updated motor mount. The car spins very freely so all in all i was pleased with the car!

It is tough finding out details about the car so i have a few questions... Why was this car so unpopular? It seemed very few (at club level anyway) were unable to get it to work. In 2002 Karl Marsden (UK HPI Driver) won some mod Nationals so it must have worked!

It is also interesting that the Losi team are now prototyping to good effect a rear motored Jrxs. The major difference now between the cars is the short wishbone design of the Jrxs compared to the long Pro 3 design...was the geometry of the Pro 3 an issue???

From holding my car it seems that a problem is the amount of weight at the very extremes of the car. There is a lot of plastic that weighs alot both front and rear, may be the alloy parts and a dremel will sort this out! Speaking of which does anyone have any pics of HB parts HB32P and HB29P? (alloy upper mounts i think) or HPI part 7200 (lower front mount) as i am wondering if they are a good hop up.

Lots of questions there , i will put some electronics in her and post some pics up...hopefully get to the track as well!

Cheers all
Chris

The short driveshafts and battery insertion issues played a part in the Pro 3's unpopularity, plus the way it was shipped as a spec racer which needed loads of options. Another nail in the coffin was the fact that soon after it was released, other cars started getting released that featured easy roll centre adjustments, which no one at that time really played with until it was easy to change.

Glad you found a good condition Pro 3, I think with a few mods to its basic design it could have been a great contender! Alloy parts won't make the car any lighter, but will probably be a lot stronger than the plastic parts, which you may not be able to find if they break. This depends on the part of course. The alloy upper bulkheads may not be a worthwhile buy, however the lower bulkheads and hingepin mounts might be, if you can find them.

Good luck!

Thanks Frank,

I will have a little play with the car, quite interested to see how it drives!

Am i right in thinking that you are/were affiliated with HPI/HB Europe? If so do you know if they have a stock of parts at all or is it a hunt on EBay and Model shops now days?

Many Thanks
Chris

I work for Mirage, the HPI/HB distributor (so not directly for/with HPI EU), but I don't know what kind of stock we have for the Pro 3 and other discontinued cars. I'd guess very little or none, and that the Pro 3 parts hunt will involve phone calls to shops and eBay searches

I always thought the car was a blast to drive. I won serveral races with it on the outdoor tracks around here, and after I got a chassis stiffener it was fast on the carpet track running rubber tires. I never understood why everyone seemed to just hate the car.
