Default It wont happen to me !!

Thats what we think !!!

Today at the nats practice i put aside a peaked IB4200 pack after it peaked on my Checkpoint charger.
After a few ninutes i heard a loud SHHHHHHHHHHHHH and saw it had vented and quickly grabbed it and threw it to the ground, while looking for something to put over it a cell blew like a large firecracker.

No one hurt but a lot of us stunned.
So guys BE CAREFUL !!! with your batteries and dont take for granted that they are all good and safe .

Before i forget it was charged at 5 amps with a 3mv delta peak cutoff and a temp cutoff of 47deg/c the default setting on the charger.

Wow... that's the same charger settings I have too. This is scary. Actually this has always been something at the back of my mind.

However I have heard that the IB4600 are better though I am not sure...

I think going to 5 cells was a mistake. 6 gp3300s weigh about the same as todays larger, heavier 5cell packs & they are plenty fast when you pop a 9turn motor into them. Not to mention you can get 4th gen of the lower capacity cells that have actually had alot of r&d put into them for like $20-$30 a pack. Perhaps the battery market pushed the envelope too far in an effort to make a buck. Now they all have to switch to lipo because people don't trust the new cells.

I would wager that that particular cell peaked a while before the others causing it to be overcharged. Remember cells are matched on discharge time, not charge time. That ghastly expensive ICC charger is looking better & better every day...

Also, IB4200 are prone to change for no apparent reason...

It's kinda sad.. but I'm making a new product I think will be called "bomb-bag" for nimh charging. Maybe that's a new ROAR rule too... charger bags for both lipos and nimh.

I'm not kidding either. Totally serious.

This has happened at my local small indoor track twice in teh 4 times I raced there this winter. Once I was in the pits next to it and once I was in the middle of a race when it went bang.

PM me if anyone is interested.

yeah this is getting stupid i have seen 6 packs blow up in the last 6 weeks, all ib 4200's. scary!! somebody is going to get hurt bad! i have never seen a lipo go up yet since they been out. definently a flaw in the last few batchs of 4200's. they honestly should not even be sold anymore, but who wants to take the lost

True. I think if someone were to take this to the right "people"... we would see a mandatory recall of all IB4200s in the U.S.

That's the discharge current, it's the same menu as the Duratrax ICE.

I was not sure.

Last Saturday there were 3 different packs that failed, one started to vent and was thrown, the other started to smoke on the charger and than hissed like no tomorrow and the last one was thrown and in mid air popped just like a damn firecracker only louder!

Good that no one was hurt though

Actually is it just me? It seems most of the blowups are specific to the IB4200. I haven't heard of as many problems with the 4600 yet but it might be because it is still new.

it is the old ib4200s that are problematic but the new technology such as the ib4600s like mine and the newer ib4200s
