SMC 28C 4000/5000 Hardcase Lipo part 2
#317
Today Eli is using Energ 4600s and his lap times aren't faster than when he was running the 5000 pack. He tells me he feels they are pretty much the same. We have just been doing a regular 5 amp charge with no heating up of the pack prior to using it. Eli will be doing more tests at his home track track but so far it seems promising.

Danny, I have my GFX now and I'm starting to check out some of my packs.
It's fresh from CE with the lipo update and faceplate etc. They do check/calibrate them when they get sent in don't they?
I put deans on the main leads, and clipped on the sensor leads like you showed earlier.
I'm not going to clutter your thread with data from my stuff, etc but I will say that I'm very happy with the #'s from my packs, just based on what you have posted so far. But I have more testing to do for sure...
Thanks for all the info.

Heating is to get the pack up in temp prior to using it on the track. The goal of the testing we have done so far was to see how the pack would react with regular 5 amp charge. So not heating or high amp charging and back to back cycling has been tried. The one thing we were doing is to discharge the pack after a run.

Thinking about the heating issue now, the only practical way I see of doing it is the high amp discharge as Danny has been doing it, then charge it when it's wrapped in the tire warmers or over the ceramic heater, etc. These heating methods aren't terribly effective in heating the battery thoroughly, but they should greatly slow (possibly even eliminate if you can create 140-150 degree ambient heat around the pack) heat loss while the battery charges or sits after you've warmed it via discharge.

Danny had me put the lipo in my car for a test fit, the 4000 went right in with no trouble, but the 5000 was too tall by the bulkheads, if you shave them down it will get in there, and there is still enough material to hold tweak and all properly, but i would be very careful not too strip out the upper deck screw holes.

from the testing we have done and the torture tests results my boy Ling has done this is the pack to have. I'm wishing the 5000 would fit but the 4000 is still better than anything we've seen on the track. Until I get my doors blown off with something else there's no reason for me to look elsewhere.

The 4000 should still outperform almost anything else on the market... Unless you need the runtime. The 4000's run about 4100-4200 in capacity, FYI.
