That is likely so. Our base plate is just shy of 1mm thick after installed, and the pack reviewed was 23.5mm thick, and it just fit.

Looks like the 4000 is the more practical fit in the 416.

You know what's hotter than a LiPo fire? Charging and balancing two packs simultaneously.

Nope, DC only. It's about the size of an ICE, though maybe just a tad larger. It's two full chargers and balancers, and can do 10A on either side, simultaneously. Firmware is upgraded via USB, not sending it in for a new EEPROM. It'll do just about every type of cell imaginable, and can mix chemistries. So, you could be charging a LiPo on one side at 5A, and a NiMH on the other at 8A. It's a nice charger. :-)

Default SMC lipo source

Most of us know about the common manufacturers, Kokam, Enerland etc. But has anyone heard about Simplo Technologies?

Could this be the mysterious supplier for SMC?

Don't want to start any speculation, but it would be interesting to find out.

No this isn't our supplier. I have mentioned before that our supplier custom makes the high C rate Lipos exclusively for SMC. Even if I would mention the name you wouldn't find any info online about this company.

Damn you Syndrome. I've been very happy with my Checkpoint and now you have to show me this. You're not my friend anymore.

Haha, sorry man! I've got a Checkpoint Bloody ICE for sale if you want another one. :-D I've been getting a lot of questions about the charger, so here's what I've been telling people:

Quote:
So far, the charger is awesome. It's two full chargers and two full balancers in one. So, each side is capable of charging at 10A simultaneously. I charge my packs at 1C, so I'm only using half that. And yeah, it can balance both packs while charging. About the only complaint I have is that it's got a small 2 line screen, rather than something big like the ICE. Also, it beeps annoyingly after the battery is done charging until you stop it. I haven't figured out how to turn that off. It's got 10 different "charging finished" tones, and you can set them to be different on each side. In reality, it's two separate chargers and you switch between them with the CH button. The functions for each side are completely independent.

The balancer is cool, it shows you the voltage of each cell. You can toggle into that view while you're charging, or look at the other screens with the normal info, including internal resistance.

So, here's what I ordered:

1 x Hyperion EOS0610I DUO $269
2 x Hyperion XH Multi Adapter (for SMC packs) $7 each
1 x USB Adapter $18
1 x Firmware Adapter $2

The last two pieces will allow you to update the firmware from your PC, and apparently display more data once the software is released.
Hyperion's site isn't great, but it's got some info. I wonder if that beta software for the PC works with the DUO? I'll have to try it! Also, there's 80+ pages of discussion from the R/C flight crowd here. Most of it is quite favorable.

Looks like the PC software is out. Here's some discussion on it, solicited by a company rep. Cool stuff.

hi just bought smc's 5000 lipo pack. just want to ask for those who have tried this battery and those that have tried orion's 3600. do you need to change your gearing? if so, if you are using lets say 38 pinion when you were using orion 3600. if you use the smc 5000 lipo plus you heat them also, do you need to put 39t pinion or 37t pinion? thanks hehe hope it make sense

Typically you should gear down as our packs have higher voltage and lower IR. I would start with 3 teeth less on the pinion and look at your motor temp after a run. If it's to hot go down more and if it's cooler than when you run the Orion pack gear up.

little update. still beating my packs like red headed step child. charge, run, repeat. no loss of power or performance, these packs are amazing. Thats 35 runs with no love (cycle/balance, etc).

*I do not advocate the destructive methods I'm using, only playing the roll of test dummy.

Danny
last weekend ran an orion 10.5 with the smc 4000 packs and i must say faultless although one of my mates was running the same motor on a track power 4900 and mine come of the track at 42.5 c (packs were cool) with a rollout of 40 and his come of at 75.0 c with a rollout of 36 ( packs were quit warm) with a difference in straight line speed of about 3 feet to me.Lap time were within .5 sec. How hot should the lipo get ??????
Competition ended on the sunday arvo so i placed the 4600 MM in for a trial run which turned into 2 batteries and 25 min later and the lipos were warm. What an excellent combo SMC4000 , Castle Creations 4600 just got get a bit more experience befor i place the 7700 in
