TC5 diff building, HELP!!!
 

What the hell is with the diffs? its impossible to get the screw to catch the nut on the sleeve, It wont happen those bearings are wayyyyyy to big for it. Its really starting to piss me off.

I put a really small deep well socket on my work bench, one that will fit up in the nut end and just push down, its a pain in the ass though, even after compressing the spring with pliers about 10 times, then to top that off I stripped out the nut once :lol:

well teh bolt wont even reach the nut caues those bearing are to big its the dumbest thing I have ever seen. I ahve never had so much trouble. I dont know what to do, I need to get this thing finished

Common problem people have when building the diffs, what you need to do is make sure the nut is fully pushed down into the plastic t-nut, Inside the Tnut is two little notches, they are not easily seen and normally the nut only pushes down to the first one.

Get yourself a screw driver or driver and push the nut down, you will generally hear it click down. Then you will find that the screw will reach the nut with no issues at all. Whatever you do though dont try and do the diff up until that nut is fully seated as you will generally break the ears off of the tnut.

the nut is all the way down, i took a light and looked at it when the spring is in there and the threads dont stick out so therfore catching the nut is not happening. so what am I doing, I am following the instructions, but the 2 bearings just dont seem right, there the right ones but wow. so when it goes together, the balls and everything on one side show it cant beright the instuctions are wrong

well it can only be one of two things, you have the wrong bearings in the diff or you have something defective part wise.

Everyone in the TC5 thread with this very same issue found it to be the nut not being far enough down in the t-nut holder that goes into the diff half.

You are all wrong.

Read very carefully in the manual when building the diff. There is a step that says to compress the diff spring a few times with pliers BEFORE assembling the diff. Once you've compressed the spring, all will be well, as long as you didn't screw up the bolt/nut already.

Just to clarify, what is wrong with the directions, the size listed for the bearing, (5x8x2.5) or the life size drawing... thanks!

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, FOUND OUT I WAS TRYING TO USE THE WRONG THICKNESS WASHER. ????:o

I know this is an old thread and I'm not sure if anyone tried this but I was having the same issue, messed up a bolt, broke a couple of those t-nut holders or whatever, after getting ticked off I tried one of the t-nuts from a T-4 differential with the metal threads molded into the plastic and it worked great, didn't strip the threads again. Not sure if this is already posted but just thought I'd share.
