Took off the dampener tubes and unscrewed the tweak springs all the way up. Put the front wheels on scales and the left front is measuring 221 g and the right front is measuring 159 g. Going to pull the front end apart and rebuild tonight to see if I have something off/bent/binding etc. but that's still a pretty big difference. Even if I put the receiver and pack on the right side the balance on the front only changes about 5 g.
When you have the front end apart, make sure that the lower a-arms measure the same height above a setup board.

Bought the car used. Pulled the front end apart and one kingpin was .405 and one was .410. One of the steering blocks measures a hair thinner than the other and had a shim on top of the lower ball and another below the lower ball on top of the spring where I couldn't see it.

New parts ordered. Looks like her maiden voyage will have to wait another week. Guess I should have investigated a little more before I spoke but was anxious to get to the track and give her a try.

Question: What is the lube of choice in the tubes now. Been reading this thread for hours and keep seeing 50k but don't see where 50k is offered for sale anywhere. Thickest I see is 30k. Gonna be a medium smooth carpet track with decent sweeper and straight followed by about 6 or 7 tighter turns. Somewhere around 75 x 36.

Ok, front end completely rebuilt and everything is IDENTICAL on each side. Tweak springs all the way out and dampener tubes disconnected. Motor wires disconnected. Still off by 23.5 grams! WTH? Already added 15g to the right side. Do I really hsave to add another 23g of weight to the right side? Suggestions?

Please forgive me if these suggestions seem silly, but have you checked the scales to see if they give (nearly) the same reading with a test weight? Is the reading (nearly) the same regardless of where the weight is placed on the scale?

What reading do you get when you move the front and rear right side tires to the left and vice versa? In addition to checking that, you should check that the chassis is not tweaked from the battery top plate. You should also measure front and rear springs to make sure they are the same diameter, and the exact same length.

-Unless your rear pod is balanced, do not check chassis balance with pod included, it is not "necessary" to balance the pod, as it's weight is resting on a solid axle
however, some of us do this anyway

-Are you sure the rear wheels are centered on the chassis ?
hard to tell from pics

Scale board is balanced and scales are identical. Test weight is 11.4g on both scales no matter where I position it. Tires are 0.3g different. Just trued all 4 so they are the same size too. Front springs are identical in length as are the kingpins and rear springs are backed all the way off and not touching so they don't matter. Checked chassis plate in glass setup board and its flat. This is driving me CRAZY!

Two last things. What happens when you use the knife method at the front and rear of the car for checking tweak? Does it confirm what the scales are telling you? More importantly how does it drive?

Thought you had something there. Rear wheels are sitting on solid surface so not affecting balance so I didn't think about rear wheel spacing. Left rear was closer to center. I moved it out but it only affected balance a couple g. Still off over 20g. Man I'm beat.

Yes. When you lift, right front comes up first. You can clearly see the chassis roll to the left side. Havent driven it yet. Want to go to the track tomorrow and shake it down but wanted to get a good baseline setup on it first.

HOLY CRAP! Would you believe that one of the rear links was binding up? I finally got fed up and just pulled the rear cross brace off so I could see what was going on and wouldnt you know it, the left rear link was binding up and not letting the chassis center properly. Put a new link and ball on it and now I'm 10g HEAVY on the RIGHT. I can fix that easy. Thanks for all the ideas guys. It made me think about it a different way and figured it out. I'm a life long oval racer with a T-plate car so left heavy was always a good thing until now and this is my first venture with link cars.

Glad you figured it out! I was going to suggest that, but thought he must have checked the links already.... Good luck with the car.

When installing the H plate for the long upper arms, do you have to do any grinding on the bottom arms? I would think that the H plate is supposed to fit down over the bumps on the bottom arm but it doesn't. Either that or drill out the large holes in the H plate a little bit?

If it's part 3277, I had to cut the thin strip out from between the two end plates to mount the long arms.

I cut the strip out but the big holes that mount over the bottom arm were just a hair too small so I took a cone bit on my dremel and coned the bottom side of the hole just a tiny bit and they went right on.
