This was identical to the decision I was faced with a few months back. I had narrowed it down to these two cars as well. My final choice was the TC5, and heres my PERSONAL reasons why I chose it:

* Support in the UK - Over here there are NO Losi team drivers at all. Shops don't tend to stock the parts for it.
* Cost - The TC5 worked out a little cheaper (always a bonus!)

Plus I'm not convinced Losi are going to be hanging around for much longer in the Touring Car market, they seem to be focusing more and more on the 8th scale now.

Having said that, both are great cars, you won't be disappointed with either. Have a look at your local track and hobby shop see whats popular there - always helps if you've got spares nearby or setups on hand!

TC5 for rubbers on asphalt.

There is no paid TC drivers on Losi anymore. But they still have a team with the local sponsered guys on both coast here. It sucks it is going that way but it is pretty costly to do TC and I guess they don't see much of a return on it. The Type R is good on both asphalt and carpet. You just need to find the setup that works for you on both.

the tc-5 is cheaper to drive.
the losi has no more development, the car will stay the same.
the tc-5 has new harder arms that you can get.

the losi is a cool car though.

If you are depending on a vote count here, you might as well get a TC5. Associated always had a larger following especially with the recent changes at Horizon.

Type R is anything worth racing is worth getting to play with on the carpet and asphalt... if it can race well of course it can be played with well. it's the other way around that matters. usually toys are pieces of crap and can't be raced, like associated's cars.
