Default Swaping Servo Gears?!?!?!

i have a Jr servo, (S9451 i think) and the ONLY plastic gear (1st gear) as a tooth broken off. i have a airtronics metal gear servo and the first gear seems to be the same size but i think it has 2 more teeth. can i swap out the jr gear as a quick fix?

As a quick fix you might be able to turn the gear so that the broken tooth isnt at a place that is used. Since the servo doesnt go 360 degrees most of the gears dont either.

i thought about that, ill have to test it and see. but the plastic gear has an outer gear and a smaller gear on the inside, this is on the smaller internal gear that broke.

thanks for the suggestion

Id try it to see if it does. I dont think adding a bigger gear would be a good idea. Good luck!

I have used gears from other makes of servos as replacements for broken gears, but the gears I used were identical in size and teeth count to the ones I was replacing. I did this once on an old Ko Propo, I found the gears I needed from two different packs of Futaba gears, they worked perfectly. Your situation is a bit different in that you say the gears are the same size but have different teeth counts, which means they must be a different pitch, which isn't good, I can't imagine it would work to well/or at all if this were the case. If they are the same teeth count and pitch and it fits with no binding or rubbing in the servo case it should work fine. It actually surprised me when I found out I could find hard to find gears from other makes that were direct drop ins for another brand, not the whole gear set mind you, but a gear or two from different sets.

thanks man, u made it crystal clear.

the thing that sucks is that its the only plastic gear in the whole system. ill just go back to my anolog servo and order a replacement kit for it.
