Why the M03 ???? It's much cheaper than the 05 to build especially since there's close to $100 in steering upgrades for the 05. The stock steering components are junk. The 03 is so much easier to work on than the 05.

Performance is much more driver related in Mini than most other classes. Remember that Micheal Monaghan uses an 03. He won the TCS Nats last year and cleaned everyone clock in the Regional this year. Right now, IMO, they are pretty much the same in performance.

I'll go for cheaper and easier to build and maintain for your first Mini. With the right set up, it's as fast or faster than the 05.
well said... i ran mini for the first time ever 2 weeks ago and finished 6th in a field of roughly 30 drivers (a lot of the faster guys running M05 and M05 Pros) at a club event. Ran an M03 I traded for and didn't do anything to it except put in my electronics and check the front alignment. If not for a few driver errors (too hot into switch backs rolling the car) I could easily have been competing for the top 3.

Double stuffed tires are illegal.

Where? As long as they don't exceed the diameter limitation, they are legal in the USA...unless someone changed the rules when I wasn't looking.

Any tire I have seen d.s. has been larger than 60D
TCS Canada does not allow any D.S.

Oh great... Now people are trying to throw the new Traxxas Rally in with the Tamiya because it has nearly the same wheelbase as a Mini.

Two totally different cars as far as I'm concerned.

I think that the Traxxas is geared more towards the 4wd chassis like ABC hobby and HPI cup pacers not the Tamiya mini.

I don't think it's anything like any on-road car. It's a mini truck with road tyres and an odd body. It's a lot wider also.

It's wheelbase is 206mm and the front track is 185mm from the outside of each tire front tire. I reminds of what Losi did many, many years when they converted the XX4 into a touring car. It looks like it might be fun. With the an off road type chassis and weather proofing rallying could be fun.

Traxxas' wheel size is way out of proportion. They don't like industry standards, just look at the current Rustler, Stampede, etc. They are 2.8 instead of 2.2

I'm staying away from Traxxas new rally car.

I'll take a look at the IHobby Expo and if it's a good car. I will definitely consider it.

Anyway tried the new Shimizu 60 tires?
http://www.pit-shimizu.com/news.html

How do they perform and how do they compare? Seem to be a better deal than the Tamiya 60D tires. Which compound would be around the same as the Tamiya Type 60?

tamiya belted slick 60d is type a which is a soft compound, probably similar to a 23 or 25 degree rated tires you see from other manufactures.
