Haven't posted in here for a while, mainly as I completely fell out of love with my mini for a bit... it had huge turn in oversteer what ever surface/tyres etc I ran... for the life of me, couldn't tune it out.
Had me completely vexed, as I'm pretty good with setting a car up, and whatever I tried didn't fix it.

Only thing left was to give the car a strip down and see if I could find anything... and well, turns out that the standard servo saver was knackerd, with the plastic ring having snapped. However, as I had metal rings over it, it was being hidden. Instead of just replacing the plastic bit, though I might as well go the full hog, and get a proper servo saver, cue the Tamiya high-torque, with the blue alloy mounting plate (been running the same on my tourer for ages, with no issues at all, and no slop). First time out on track with it today... and it's fixed, if anything handling better than ever, it just goes round corners now no issues (and quickly ), and with it's LiPo/brushless combo, is a sinch to run...think I might have fallen for the mini agin

Do the S-grip and M-grip balloon like the kit tyres at speed? I know the kit tyres make the rear of car extremely unstable on the straight!

Funny....we just had this discussion tonight after racing.....we can't get enough of these little cars....even though sometimes we just can't get them right....when you do.....it's like listening to AIR SUPPLY over and over again!!!

3Racing M03 Heat Sink Review

I picked up a 3Racing heat sink for my mini and installed it this weekend. While it does appear to be of typically good-ish 3Racing construction, the design is fundementally flawed.

The motor plate pushes the motor out 2mm. This throws the gear mesh of your pinion off by 2mm. If you adjust the pinion 2mm further out on the motor shaft, then it's pretty much hanging on by a thread. (just shy of 1mm)

That can't be good. My review: Don't bother.

Any thoughts or input?

Jim, heat sinks on minis are flawed anyhow. You dont extract much heat from that end of the can. And you definately cannot extract it through the chassis with the std alloy heatsick for the m04/3. These heatsinks are nothing but extra weight (i dont run one on my 04, only on the 03, cause its a nice blue shade from the 03r kit lol) The motor needs to be kept cool mostly around the endbell (black end) especially the brushes, and also to a lesser extent the magnets. Excessive heat on magnets usually reduces the magnets power. I always try to throw a fan on the endbell end of a motor, preferably in such a way, as to get the air flow inside the can (making the hot air exit). My 04 has a much more fan glued to the top of the battery holder. On my M03, i have the 3 racing fan, that points down from the servo holder (a hint for these, connect straight up to the battery, not through the rec.) Ive had the same motor in my 04 for ages. Keep it clean and dont overheat them, and they should last a while

Well after 2 seasons of racing now my M03 is so tweaked the left and right toe in at the rear are different from each other and the car drives sideways down the straights (Still one of the fast ones oddly enough). Anyway the car is pretty much in need of a complete rebuild which I'm just not wanting to do so I'm thinking on replacing it. I'd prefer not to get a 4wd just to stay within the spirit of the class...but I do want a CF chassis instead of plastic. The only Mini I know of that even comes close to fitting the bill is the Tech Racing one based on a pan car but the base car on that I feel is over priced as I would have to pay quite a bit more to get the ball diff and CF chassis for it. Are there any other Minis out there that meet what I'm looking for? Also I dislike having the battery pack down one side of the car. I would prefer crosswise, centered, or saddle pack car. I don't want to give up on Mini yet as I have so much fun with the class...I just can't find the car that I want. Any suggestions?

axle182: I've run the fans over the endbell and found they didn't make much difference. I've been wondering if some sort of air scoop might be an idea for cooling. You definitely get more air flowing past these cars than a little fan could push....hmmmm

I understand I could get all the plastic parts for next to nothing and rebuild the car. But that's not what I'm wanting to do. Probably what I'll end up doing...but not what I want to do. I find myself missing the look and ease of maintenance in a car that isn't entirely plastic.

Maybe...it is an interesting looking car but it does have one feature I mentioned above that I really don't like...the battery on one side of the car.

Tony.....or anyone else out there that wants to chime in.....how much faster are either the black can or the Hobby wing brushless motors compared to the silver cans......I'm looking for a quantified answer.....20% faster...etc!!!

The silvercan compared to the Hobbywing 13T brushless is like chalk and cheese. If you go to the Aussie Forum under MO3 Racing, it has it all for you as we race the B/L system now (no points) and i would say everybody will be when they come in 1/1/09, no doubt TFG (Tony) will give you a % as that is his job, he works and plays on Minis all day and half the night
