For anyone interested, there is talk of maybe allowing the new 3 Racing MG Mini to run down in Aus. Probably of zero interest in the US where most clubs are stuck with TCS rules, but it may be a portent of things to come.

I’d guess sticking to specific fwd chassis, fixed gearing and spec motor would keep things under control. You’ll still have people wanting to buy more expensive crap, but if you set up common sense rules, it could work.
Wait, now I think of it it, nope. Never gonna happen, except maybe down under. How do you guys keep a lid on things?

Easy (sort of). The rules are kept simple, but very specific.
My personal view on the MG Mini joining in (which may/may not reflect the feeling of the rules committee) is that the class (yes even down here) has stagnated somewhat, and even dropped back in numbers.
More of the same is not going to help things. Sometimes you have to be brave and try something new.
The car is no quicker, but at the price point is SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper and as such has the potential to attract a whole lot of people who wouldn't otherwise consider Mini. How can that be bad.
Just out of interest, I dug up our original ruleset from 2008, not a whole lot has changed.
Eligible Chassis
Tamiya M01/2 or M03 series "Front Wheel Drive" chassis only, assembled as per Instruction Manual, and no chassis/powertrain modifications allowed. With the exception of the included/optional differential which may be modified to give a locked/spool action.
Wheels/Tyres
Any commercially available rubber mini-sized tyre, in any combination and/or compound, with any insert, and standard offset mini-sized wheels.
Bodies
Bodyshells are open, with the following restrictions - No Modern (Post 1980) Touring Sedans and/or 12th scale type Wedge/Can-am Sports bodies.
Motor & Transmission
20, 18 OR 16 Tooth pinions only
Tamiya Black Can Sport-Tuned motors – 53068 (23,000 rpm max), or 13T/3000KV Hobbywing OEM/rebranded COMPLETE SYSTEM with max 25 or 35 amp ESC and engraved /etched can. No modifications are permitted to motors.
Chassis
A minimum weight limit of 1330gms (with transponder) will apply. ESC, bearings and Tamiya Hot-ups only permitted, with the following exceptions – Official Tamiya optional ALLOY Hot-up components may be replaced with an equivalent aftermarket part. e.g. Front/Rear Uprights, Heatsink motor mount, servo mounts, shocks.
Batteries
Any approved 6 cell Nicad and/or NiMH stick pack. Any 2 cell, Hard-cased approved 7.4 Lipo packs as listed on the ROAR website (http://www.roarracing.com/approvals/lipobattery.php)

I have been working on my V2 R as of lately in between my TC chaos and it's been a blast. Fresh lightweight Miata lid painted up in search of more speed on the black carpet. Should be a tenth or two off my old swift (less cg, less weight, better aero). The spool helps rip through the tight in field sections and makes for a Tc feel 
A few teammates are starting to bring them out for practise sessions (Mini is no longer raced in our area) and it's gaining some momentum again

With the m07 and recently the mg being released and specific threads to suit this one has died , even the m07 trhread is quiet .
Also alot of people have moved on to facebook these days . Unfortunately rctech is becoming a thing of the past

I recently put my M05 back together for an extra car for our Mini practice event at our now local track. My M07 was giving me troubles so I ran the 5. It's a very solid car on certain tracks.

Almost finished building my sons nsu tt m05. Juat gotta put transponder plate on and do the body. Everything factory except for bearings so far. Trackstar servo and just some hobby king softpacks. Changing the tamiya plug to deans and batteries to deans was tired and got xt plug batteries some how lol.
was first time building a tamiya and doing in road wheels (im a drift guy) so was interesting.
Looking forward to seeing him test it out.

Since I seen this thread on the first page I should update with some pics :P
I am still running the M05 VII R on black carpet. I removed the rear braces (20-30grams removed off the top of my memory) trying to keep the CG down.. I also moved the ESC to the passenger side rear to help the balance. This thing rips :O The only thing is with the spool up front It can be sketchy on new tires or cold tires for the first few laps then it's full power everywhere putting it down
I just ordered the Alum 1 Degree rear alum hinge pin holder which should help the rear settle down on the straights. Also ordered the Carbon reinforced front / rear arms. I really feel this will give that extra stiffness needed on the Black Carpet

Nice ride.
Instead of that long and heavy turnbuckle high up from the servo.. get a carbonfiber shaft and drill out those Knuckles. Then add another carbon rod on the outside of the sentral one. Test fit twice.. glue once.
Question: Is there anyone who have ever made a oil diff for the M03?
