hprt- It's great to hear both sides. Nice post.

We don't want to alienate bert, he's one of us, a m-chassis fanatic.

….Bert kills me….

I was the last driver at my club to convert but I think I drove better with my FM Novak xxtra synthesized receiver and Futaba 3PK radio than my current 2.4Ghz Sanwa M4 that my club members chipped in to buy me cause they were sick of my 5 foot antenna on the drivers stand. Still have it as a back up though, hehe.

One class for mini and after qualifying, it will sort itself out. You generally should be racing with guys of similar skills in the finals anyways. Everyone is free to spend however they want. Losing and blaming equipment is sad. Do the best with what you got and just have fun, which for me is that close battle in the finals with whomever you’re running against for position.

I’m gonna test the “who spends more wins” theory this winter season with a simple out of box mini with tighter diff and friction dampers. If I can’t turn, then CVA dampers. Really want to see how competitive that would be against blinged out cars. Gonna try an outta box TT01 in the blinky 21.5 class too! Cause if it were all about winning for me in this hobby, I would never have started cause I’d be disappointed probably every time I race! My moto is always: I can afford to lose!

Ivan

ps. One interesting development for our club this coming winter season is that we will have 7 guys (that I know of) with Awesomatix cars for the Blinky 17.5 Touring Car class which is our most competitive class. That’s a $1000 chassis! Nothing wrong with that of course but the funny thing is the top guys have something different in your generic AE, Serpent, Xray, Yokomo and Tamiya. Be interesting if a $1000 chassis upgrade can dethrone the top guys at our club.

A handsome face and a fantastic personality trumps skill. That's why I'm a winner.

At least that's what I tell myself

There is no question that knowledge is power, but when a few racers keep buying 1000 motors, batteries, rotors, etc..., to get that edge, they will always endup with the fastest minis, whether they have skill or not.... One experiment would be to share radios among racers on the driverstand !!! I remembered driving someone else's mini, and thinking that my mini sucked big time, but then I realized the equipment difference was huge... My nearly stock stuff did not matchup at all, eventhough I was faster than him driving my mini... Skill does matter, but to a point... Handout gear is the only speed equalizer. Skilled drivers will always be ahead, but not by such a huge margin as they are today in an open racing environment...
I even heard that some esc's show a blinky light while adding timing when running.... Don't ask me which esc !!!LoL... No way to beat that without a handout esc rule too...

Got my 20yr old NIB M01 and opened the box. Very happy. Everything but the instructions manual inside, I just downloaded and printed it up just now.

Shall start building tonight. First, MantaRay ball diffs.

I should be getting my Sabre4wd Mini this week to. Woot!
Electronics are R614FF-E, S6070, Kimbrough servo savers, TBLE02-S, silver can on both.

Instead of the manta ray, do you have an old gear diff that you can gum up?

Better equipment will only make you marginally faster than you already are. It won't give you more skill. It also will not stop people from continuing to believe that there is a conspiracy around A-main drivers and their top secret equipment.

I 've seen some expensive equipment driven by some bad drivers ...the pricey equipment didnt help their ability.
Here is how I'd order things..
Experience>Skill>Equipment

I do, but I wanted to put the mods of the era.

Here's how far I got tonight.

We do this all the time at our club races. It is a good opportunity to get other drivers feedback on your setup. Ivan, myself and others have swapped minis for qualifiers and mains while on the stand on several occasions. That is part of the fun. You know what? The top drivers still finish in the top positions in the final - regardless of whose car they are driving.

I too have a 10+ yr old tt-01 that I will be running, alongside Ivan, in a blinky 21.5 class this winter. Even if we are the only two on the same lap, it will be fun racing for position and Ivan and I will come off the stand laughing about it. Chuck (0000000000) will probably be right there with us...

It won't. What's more likely is that there will be a yard sale on Awesomatix chassis next summer...

I dunno Scott. All those newbies running expensive LiPo's, $500 radios, and a pair of Turbo 35 chargers.....such superior equipment, going to be hard for me to keep up with them all......
