Was this foolish?
I was cleaning my M05 racer with brakekleen.... and this happened:
It wasn't noticeably broken before.. I don't think at least!
My question is:
did the Brakekleen just out and out melt the plastic parts?
or
did it find any fractures from racing crashes?

I have been reading about set ups and I keep seeing talk about sweeps tires. Are people useing sweeps on carpet? I have tried them and I roll the car in every corner if I carry any speed. If they are faster, I will try them again and work on my setup a little more.
I have tried sweeps, m grips, s grips type b slicks, and type a slicks.
I am currently running type b in front and type a in rear, full sauce on front and rear. This is on a M05 V2 with a full size Lipo. I haven't purchased a shortly yet, smc doesn't have the good ones back in stock yet. Car turns in hard, doesn't push through corners and has good pull out as long as I do my part.
Always reading and trying some of the things I learn. This has to be the best car thread on rc tech.

Why did you spray the entire chassis anyway?
Try getting some scrap plastic that you got and spray it
and see if you get the same reaction

Not all brake cleaners are safe on plastic.
Gluing the sidewalls may help.

I had a black M03 chassis turn whitish/grey and get brittle in spots, after using a cleaner on it. Can't remember which, but it was probably brake cleaner an industrial silicone spray I found at my job. I only use a non-chlorinated brake cleaner now, that claims to be safe on plastics. I still avoid getting it on the chassis though.
Speaking of brittle, anyone else notice how thin the bottom of the 05 V2 is under the gearbox? Hasn't broken, just very thin!

Monkey I have and already have a crack in mine. I had horrible luck with my v1 right before regionals this year and is partly why I never made it. Mine is cracked but hanging in there thanks to the bumper. I plan on ordering some replacements here soon once they are state side.

One more question.
I am setting up my play mini for a friend to give it a try. It does not have the adjustable rear camber links. When I set it up with my starting ride height of 5mm front and 4.5 rear, the rear has excessive rear camber. Should I run it like that or raise the ride height to get the rear camber to a reasonable setting?

The chassis is very brittle ...you really have to be extremely careful what solvents, glues, and greases touch that plastic.
Brake Cleaner can now be added to the list of no no's for the Tamiya plastic chassis.
Also NEVER use any threadlock as it too will make the plastic break apart (i learned the hard way). By the way, I was using threadlock on a metal to metal piece but some of the thread lock seeped onto the plastic ...all it took was a fraction of a drop.

dont know what your rules are... but i think we are finally realizing that the 'silvercans' and 'blackcans' (sealed brushed motors) have finally come to a crossroads as far as racing goes... the performance and stress that todays cars and batteries are trying to achieve are just not friendly to such motors. put a 21.5 brushless motor in there and you will rarely 'need' a fan (i can only speak for asphalt racing) but i would imagine one fan pointing at the endbell should be more than enough cooling effort..

I was only cleaning a nook out that was full of debris and grease. Sprayed more than I thought. Anyway curiously the parts I had replaced were not affected. The original ones did. This is a second hand car, perhaps it was crashed before my ownership too. Either way its just 2 parts racks...a whole $12 to repair :-)
