Can someone please provide a part# for Tamiya ball cups for the steering linkages on my M03? I believe they're a different size than a ballcup I might find on my touring cars.

The stock m03 steering cups are part of the C parts tree #50793. The inner cup where a step screw (servo saver) goes through is #22 on the tree. The cup for the outer that connects the steering knuckle is part #13. If you used a ballend instead of a step screw at the servo saver like the stock m04 then the cup is part #50596.

Is anybody else using the black gears 54277 reinforced gear set in their M03?
I've had them on the shelf for months and decided to install a set on my M03.
The spur gear is such a tight fit it won't even turn! I'm sure if I just installed it and ran the car it would either wear in nicely or melt the chassis.
I thought perhaps it was the M03 chassis, I tried 3 new packets of the gears and 3 different chassis, same thing in all of them ... the long idler gear works fine, just the spur is the problem ... they fit the M05 chassis without any problem. Anyone else had this problem?

is it just an end float problem?? or is it gear mesh as well?
i was looking atr getting some of these from you... but now you have me worried??

Sounds you got a bum set, Tim. I've run them since they came out in everything from 03 to 06 and never had an issue.

Yep. I think part of the problem is the bearing holes in the black gears are slightly bigger than the white ones (different plastic shrinkage). This allows for more radial slop on the shafts because the bearings are looser. The spur sits in an area that's very tight. Also my black spur is about .2mm+ bigger in diameter than the white. Looks like you have to do chassis mods to fit them in.

Multiple bum sets for multiple people? Very odd. We've got dozens of guys running them without issue. Of course, this could explain why my M-03 is always noisier than my old 05 or 06. Could also help explain the black carbon looking material that was filling my gearbox when I rebuilt it last week.

Are you just cleaning out the area around the spur to open it up?

I haven't done the mod yet Jim (too lazy). When I get to it I'll use a rotary tool (dremel) and carefully open up where you said. I'll probably do a tape trick to see if I can tighten up the bearing holes.

Yep. Seems to be the silver Al version of the S Spec. The description has TRF shocks in silver but the pic has mini CVA plastic shocks.

It's not an end float problem, I thought it was at first but after a bit of sanding the spur was still locked solid.
Sydewynder is correct, each of the gears, spur, idler and gear diff housing is 0.2mm+ larger in diameter.
I don't think I'll bother with these for my M03. I've never had a problem with the standard items, even in the velodrome mini they work fine. Just thought I'd try them because they were new

Jim, do you check your gears spin freely every time you install a new set in the chassis? or do you just put them in and start driving? even some of the standard gear sets can hit on the chassis slightly causing more noise at first. But the standard gears usually hit because they are too long, not due to diameter.
