Do you put on some nice salsa music and dance while you shake too?

TRF kits come with floride coated bearings.

Personally I don't know anyone who cleans bearings including the pros. I am more likely to just replace one if it dies, but the ones in my TRF are still silky smooth after nearly a year of racing.

I just cannot believe that the blue anodized hardware starts to loose some of its blue, and the turn buckled scratch so easily just from building the car.... anyone else noticed this?

Also there seems to be alot of plastic on the center pulley assembly, I wonder fi you guys know if or if tamiya makes some metal counterparts for some of those spacer / plates.

so I guess the solution is just to be careful with them.
I just noticed on speedtech that for the 417 they have Ti turn buckles. I am was thinking that maybe I could eventually get a set of these for the steering and even the camber links (yikes although they are expensive 20.xx for a pair) seeing how they could be much stronger in case of the occasional hit of the barrier ect? Or would you guys think its overrated?

I do see value in the turnbuckle tool though, I have a hudy one which of course doesnt fit. (hence I use the wrench that came in the box and manage to dent and scratch one of the turnbuckles. (yes I am pretty unhappy about it)

here is how they end up if you are not careful.. the wrench start to dig into them crating a dimple

If you learn to let go, it's not so bad...

What I used to do before, was wrap the turnbuckle with scotch tape when I built/adjusted them. After a while, meh

Funny I was doing the same after I saw I began to damage this one.
In regards to TI turnbuckles... anyone invest in them?

My logic:

The alum are light, right? but soft. - In the event of a crash they will bend.
Ti - just as light? (not sure on the comparison here) - In the event of a crash, they will not bend, someone else may break? and IF they bend there goes a 20 dollar part?

I was thinking of putting Ti turnbuckles maybe for the steering, but then would my servo be at risk?

the "rc" Titanium is a tad heavier, but much more durable. titanium is not as durable as steel though. With the extra durability, you gain weight. So aluminum is the lightest and steel is haviest. Titanium offers the best stregnth at the lightest weight. The titanium we use for the rc cars isnt TRUE titanium. Its a Titanium/alum/vanadium alloy (It has a chemical composition of 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (maximum) iron, 0.2% (maximum) oxygen, and the remainder titanium-thanks wikipedia.)

Side note, I am addicted to painting bodies. I need a new one. (Even though I have yet to race my NSX...

I want an IFS specific body. I am debating between the 350R, Arta, RX7(SGC7), LP560-4 or the HSV. I am leaning towards the SGC7 or the HSV.

I wish Tamiya would put "IFS only" on their IFS bodies.

i wrap the wrench in vinyl tape

the stamped steel freebie kit tool isn't too bad... you just need THREE
then stack them up, tape 'em together - now you got a usable wrench

replace if/when you break any... depends a lot where & how u race.
Ballcups usually give first, unless your car comes to a stop in a real hurry.

Alu bends, sometimes you are able to unbend it back to serviceable

Ti usually stays bent or snaps

You have a servosaver as insurance; i'm running the alu steering rack.

or spend more than $20 on a servo, more speed/torque + metal gears

Default very true

you all have very good points. I already have a S9550 servo which I like because its short and a S9451 from my nitro days. The S9451 was my steering servo.

In regards to the turnbuckles, light is good. So Alum. it is for me. I mean we are going and replacing the screws to save weight only to add it with TI turnbuckles? I have to say I did appreciate the xray turnbuckles at one point. They were very smooth.

I went to my LHS just to check out stuff.
I learned that some guys wants to run some sort of rally track on the parking lot. I am having some reservations with the TA06. I feel that I dont want to beat up my carbon chassis... either way, for batteries what fits in the car?
a buddy suggested that sometime the post type connectors get lose over time, and I think that a battery with post connector may not fit? thus I am looking at a genace or sky like this:
