having the rules change over a year ago was a great thing...they are perfect right now...ppl have to remember VTA is still a new class...it only been here since 2007...and has changed from 27t and 4 cell, to 17.5 4 cell, to 21.5 lipo, to 25.5 lipo...4 changes and some of these where offered at the same time..

other classes have changed more over a summer than VTA in 4 years...

the USVTA National rules are the best set of rules for VTA..period...and I hope ppl see this at some point to help and not hurt the class...

thanks to all the USVTA loyal racers that understand and make this class what it is....

NOTE:...nobody came to me and said they lost a VTA race cause of anything other than driver and setup...not esc, motor, tires, or money...go figure
I don't mean to dig this back up or keep the same issue rolling but I would like to add that RobK had to deal with adapting to new technology as this class was evolving. The initial rule set was 4cell and 27 turn intentionally to get the desired pace and performance. The idea with future rule changes was to adopt brushless and lipo and still keep that same texture that made the 4cell VTA so much fun. I think the rule makers did the best they could with what was available at the time of each rule change. If 25.5 motors were already available and if the issue of boost was already dealt with, then I am sure that VTA would have started with the current rule set. But thats not how it happened and they did the best they can. I think this rule set will stick for years largely unchanged.

Yeah I love the rules set for USVTA as they are. Like I told you and darkside at the southern nats, I was purely out driven in the main. Wasnt parts at all, was still being green doing set ups and just was not to the level of racers that were there. Hope both those change in time for me...lol. Long live VTA!

No, none of the legal bodies will fit the mini chassis.

Here is a setup question...So far I have been racing sedan and learning how to tweak that car to go fast. I switched it over to vta but didn't change and of the settings.

What changes do you guys typically do as far as setup as the tires are bigger, cars slower and heavier, etc...

I have heard of a chassis and adapters that extend the cup racer to standard TC dimensions, in which case you can use it in VTA. I have yet to see this chassis and adapter in the metal though, and without it I'm afraid Dougs answer is it.

I have a little present for you guys. A little collection from Battlefield in LaFayette and Thunder RC in Nashville.

Our on-road season started this weekend...and VTA is back!! Our participation level struggled as the specs changed to brushless, etc, but with an influx of new racers from our new outdoor off-road program this year it could be our strongest VTA year yet. A LOT of the "newbies" came to see their first on-road carpet race and you could tell by their voices and the "look" in their eyes they are hooked.

Once again (seems to happen every two years since VTA started here) I decided to part with the car that I had dialed-in and start with something new. Well...not so much "new" as "different". I'd bought a built-up Diggity Designs XLR8 that I ran exactly once in TC over 3 years ago and has been catching dust since. I got it out and started going through it. No "rubber-carpet" set-ups exist for this chassis (at least not published ones) so on the theory that there is very little, geometry-wise, difference between the tourers I threw my base TC5 set-up at it. It worked so well it was SCARY for such a completely different car (shaft vs. belt, etc) that is a true Frankenstein...it is a TC3 conversion kit but the car has as many TC4 parts on it as TC3 and probably more LOSI parts than TC3. Go figure.

It worked well, but I STILL got spanked by Shawn. Wish I could drive . There were some teething problems, and I have a few tuning ideas to dial it in more closely, but it was sure fun to be wrenching on something again. Now to get a couple TC3's built-up for a couple newer racers...
