I'm thinking of a scenario where I run one in my Tamiya Mini with the silver can 540 and eventually a 25.5 or 21.5 brushless. The gearing is basically fixed at 5.8:1 FDR, so I can't get too crazy there. Novak intends these for 380 sized motors, but the small size and efficiency makes it tempting to look for other uses, just as in VTA.
I won a Mongooe at the VTA Nats. and have found it works great with a 25.5. I was running a 3.8 or 3.9 fdr at Harbour Hobbies, on the carpet, and it was not getting hot at all.

The Mongoose is still in my VTA car and won't be going anywhere. Granted, I haven't tried the GTB2 yet but compared to the Havoc, the Mongoose brakes are outstanding. No heating issues and we race on a 70x40 technical parking lot track. I'm a late braker so the brakes get a workout and no issues at all. Motor temps have rarely been above 115-120 and the ESC was barely warm. Much of that I think is just the hot Florida temps we're seeing.
I'm still running the stock wires but plan to change them for 14 guage. No particular reason other than to customize wire layout. On my chassis I had to lengthen the wires with a splice.
If I had ANY plans to use brushless in our Tamiya Mini class, I wouldn't hesitate to use the Mongoose.

Guys, can I ask your opinion on adjusting timing on the ballistic 25.5 vs. changing the FDR? Is there a benefit one way or the other say increasing timing and raising the FDR vs. reducing timing and lowering the FRD? I was talking w/ someone yesterday about timing and I was curious as to your opinions? What are the pros and cons of doing this each way? Is there a best of both worlds setup here?? I'd like to have good top speed of a loewr FDR w/ decent low rpm punch if possible. Also what temps are you guys shooting for with the ballistic 25.5 after an 8 min. race. I was around 170 after 8 minutes plus about 30 seconds of practice and usually around 155 I think w/ 6 minute mains geared at 3.75 FDR. With my gearing this way I was right in the range of the fast guy s fastest lap times but If I do have to gear down to reduce motor temp I'm sure I won't be. maybe that is where my question about can be applied to this.

Thanks
Dave

I hope the weight does not come down because my HPI Pro 4 is already stripped down to the bones and it weighs in at 1545 grams! If the weight comes down then I will have to take a Dremel and start cutting away at the chassis!

the weight isnt that it has to be that exact weight. just that it has to weigh at least that. in many situations a heavy car would perform better than a super light one.
