Is gauss the issue? I thought it was diameter and a bunch of other small details.

I think it is dumb as I have tons of rotors and always choose the best one, which is usually higher rated than the "graded" ones, plus how can you tech? you can't disallow a rotor that read over 1300 as it MAY have come in the original motor
"no "tuning" rotors are allowed, only stock Novak rotors allowed"

Seems pretty clear to me. It doesn't matter if the rule is "dumb", they are the rules everyone has agreed to play by in USVTA.

There are other classes if you don't like the rules in this class. If you need to cheat to win, you're not really winning.

No tuning rotors means no aftermarket rotors other than the direct replacement OEM rotor.

Not 13mm rotors or upgrade rotors.

Obviously, we can't enforce some gauss limit, since some motors have better rotors than others by chance.

I still say that most of this motor stuff is baloney, since corner speed is worth more than motor in almost any situation. You have to be operating at a high level to get an advantage with motor, since a dump truck is not going any faster with 50 extra points on the rotor.

That makes me wonder. Does anyone notice a differrence in batteries with the 25.5 motor? Isn't it down in modified winds that the C rating shows up in the performance?

The only difference you notice is if the batteries are old. A new battery will be faster for a while and then level off. The C rating has nothing to do with performance. It just means you can draw that much out of the battery for whatever period of time the manufacture states. It will not add power or make your motor faster; itís all a marking myth. I know there will be people that will argue that but it really comes down to the quality of the cells. That is where the difference is. But of course that is my opinion with 15 years of RC lipo experience.

I should be able to answer that after sunday.
I was using some Zippy Flightmax 4000mah 25C batteries with the 25.5
I just picked up a couple Gens Ace 5000mah 40C batteries since a couple of my Zippys took a dump after 3-4 years.

The only thing i expect to see is the "rip" lasting longer with the 5000mah batteries. I will also be using the Gens Ace batteries in my 12t Titan powered dirt oval B4 on saturday. I doubt i see anything but longevity there as well.

Thumbs up

I ran a 5-year old Orion Platinum 4800 20c at the VTA Nationals in April, and even though the driver was far from capable, the car had a ton of power all day, at every point through every heat and main.

I think if you take care of your batteries, a good quality LiPo pack of any mAh rating and C rating will last you a long time in VTA/USGT/F1, and IMO, there is no noticeable power advantage for expensive high C-rating packs. Don't fall for the hype. Personally, I think brand and manufacturer has more to do with performance than any of the printed numbers on the labels do.

Ive tried 65c lipo(Thunder Power) in my VTA car and didnt see much difference...I dont think the 25.5 has enough pull to use the big c-rate lipos...

the only difference Ive seen was when I switched to Reedy lipos over SMC...my SMC 4000 28c I started using in 2008...the Reedy I just got...and my SMC has seen alot...ALOT of races and practice...

also on the rotor thing?...Dirla chime in on the 1,300 special rotor....but as far as other tunning rotors like 13mm or 14mm....its a waste of money...save that $30 and get a new stator when yours gets really old..lol....

I tried both and my car got slower or stayed the same...If you need one let me know...even if it was free to me...Ill sale it to you for $1...its worthless

stick with the 12.3 standard rotor and 5000 20-40c lipos and have some fun...

BTW...my 4000 28c was the best at the time for my VTA 21.5 car...but the SMC 5000 50c was just extra weight....the 28c seem more puchy if that makes sense...

stay within the rules and have some fun.....

also...coming soon to Thunder RC Raceway...2011 USVTA Southern Nationals Sept in Nashville TN...3 day event in Music City USA
