That race was fun and very close. Looking forward to doing that again. You should come done to HOTSHOTS RC this saturday and race vintage with us. It will be the first race there.

Default Gearing / Overheating issue

Ok, this may be a total novice question but I am looking for as much input as possible.
I am running a Novak Havoc 3S esc, and a newly purchased Novak 25.5 (refurbished) motor in a TC4 FT. My gearing is 78 spur / 50 pinion. The car seems to have good torque in and out of the corner and decent speed down the straight away. I have adjusted the gear mesh and it does not seem too tight at all. I also added a heat sink with a fan. The issue is I cannot run the car longer than 8 to 9 min without it shutting down due to overheating. The speed controller flashes and the thermal shutdown protection cuts power to the motor.
So the questions are, what gearing are most people using for VTA? Is it better to make changes on the spur or the pinion? Is that gearing too much or could I have a bad motor?

Thanks for any info!

Parts are cheap and the car is sturdy, except for the battery tray. Easy mod for that though.

See the thread: http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...a-jl-10-e.html

Which JL10e would be best for VTA, the GT version or the Drift version ?

I'm guessing the GT...

people dont realise that you may have a top notch facility but talk to your customers like crap and treat them that way, they wont come around. Some still dont get it. And history tends to repeat itself

I run the exact same car. But we have a very technical track and the idea FDR is about 4.5 to 4.7 So I am running an 88/45 With Shaftys they tend to like lower gearing ( Ie higher FDR) But it really all depends on how tight your track is and how often you are accelerating hard from a corner.

Try going down a tooth at a time and check your temps after 3 min of running race speeds. If the motor is getting up to 130 by then you may want to go another tooth down. We run 5 min qual and 8 min Sub Mains and 10 min A mains and for the A I have my motor coming off at 150 - 160 at the back of the motor (hottest point) so for 3 min I usually get to 120.

Hope this helps

Info on track:
Our address is: 1050 Industrial Drive Suite C, Marietta Ga. 30062.
Our telephone number is: 7704273770

They are really trying to push the VTA class. The rules will be the USVTA Rules.

Then any other class will be run aslong as it is 3 or more in it.

I asked this question not so long ago in this thread but noone really answered.

I am wondering if someone has a Good setup on carpet for the Xray T2 007. My setup works but I want to try something else or compare my settings to someone else's

The general starting point for just about every car out there for VTA is the standard kit rubber tire setup, or the accepted community rubber tire setup. Start from there and there usually isn't very much that needs to be changed outside of minor adjustments to suit your own driving style.

Generally, you probably aren't going to find huge setup differences for VTA cars. If you have something working well, fine tune it to YOUR driving style and get faster with something that is personal to you, not someone else.
