Strongly agree with consistent indoor/outdoor rules. You don't want racers having to throw a new package together and costing more.

Ditto on the Novak.

one last thing:
How does the gearing for 21.5 lipo compare to 27T/4 cell? I'm assuming a lower FDR, but not sure. Could someone in the know please comment on the difference in pinion size?

Gearing FDR recommendations:
27t brushed/4-cell: 5.4 - 5.6 FDR
17.5 brushless/4-cell: 3.5 - 3.7 FDR
21.5 brushless/LiPo: 4.2 - 4.3 FDR

ALWAYS? I have to disaggree....again it's all about equal equipment. There will always be racers that can squeeze 99% of the performance out of any given car and those that can not...no matter what class, what you are racing, how fast or slow is really irrelevent.

I think they should mandate 27t and nihm batteries. Screw the aggrument about people not wanting to go back to older technology. If a truely equal class is wanted, mandate a specific chassis, force same gearing for any track, same packs, motors. etc. Take all equipment varibles out of it completely....won't happen but then you would have a true 'drivers' class.

Sounds like IROC rules, Can you imagine the caterwalling about any chassis that is chosen as a "spec" chassis ??? It would be heard around the world and a really good idea would be gone by the wayside. I am 100 % behind the given rules and will be. I agree that a consistant power system rules package be in place. but we race outdoors year 'round here. So I have no need for a carpet spec power package. Just my opinion, but could be a lot of others too.

I believe looking through historic pictures or recent pictures of Trans Am racing that I do recall seeing 3 digit numbers.

As far as racing outside, there is the point of being too slow. Obviously you wouldn't want to only run 2 laps in 5 minutes as that really wouldn't be fun. I can understand on wide open parking lot races that being very slow isn't much fun. One of the reasons why I bought the F201 was to run box stock in a parking lot. While the car wasn't overly fast it was fun to drive. When people started "speeding" up the class many drivers lost interest because they didn't know which motor to bring for race day. The faster the class got the more the "slow" drivers felt they couldn't compete.

I don't think we should overlook that on some very large tracks that a faster option shouldn't be considered. However, before anyone considers changing a formula that seems to be working - at least try it out. Keep the focus on good clean driving and I bet more racers will want to come back. I'd like to share a recent experience at a track. A new to r/c racer in the VTA class commented that if he was any faster he'd just be bouncing faster off more walls. And in the end - less broken parts means more money for food at the track or gas to get to the track.

Oh, nice looking Camaro body.

Locally, the outsdoor track we have is about 110 x50 depending on how it's set up.

"Indoor" rules have been working great, and the guys really mix it up. I could see if you had a really huge track going to 13.5 or 6 cell or whatever, but the cars still look fast when you are marshaling. I honestly don't think the cars need to be faster on the track we have.

Yes, but that couple percent difference of a smaller relative performance number equals a smaller disparity. Yes, even in a pure spec class the faster drivers will generally win, but the difference front to back shrinks with the relatively lower performing cars.

I'm not opposed at all to a complete spec class, though no one even seems to be able to leave those well enough alone. I got to see the "Pre-runner" class run at Big Dad's in Portland 2 weeks ago and was impressed with the number of people (ranging from very experienced to complete rookies with a couple "retreads" thrown in who the class has attracted back into racing) with the TTO1 chassis, open electronics and a spec rubber TC tire. The track owner was driving my 4-cell/27T Vintage TA car and commenting that he should start the class there, my advice was to stick with the KNOWN excellent formula he had going.

So is it "legal" to have3 numbers per the Trans AM rules?
