coopasonic - Thanks. I read a few entries. I'll read some more. I just wanted to get a general impression of the good points and bad points of guys who've run it.

Thumbs up

I owned the Sakura Zero for a while and I really liked it a lot. The build quality was excellent. Both the Zero and the Zero S need the vertical motor mount (and I think the new V2 motor mount) to properly get large pinions and small spur gears on the car correctly.

The cost of parts on those cars is fantastic. Amazing, actually. The biggest problem IMO is part supply. There is a retailer in California that has stuff and ships fast, but they are the only one in the US, so if you need something and they don't have it, you are relegated to ordering from HK, which could be worse, I guess.

Tamiya quality, ridiculously cheap parts, but could be difficult getting spares if you need something really fast.

I'm actually considering buying my old car back from the guy I sold it to, if that tells you anything.

squarehead - Thanks for the information and your time. It sounds like a good choice if parts are available.

No problem. Thanks for the reply...

I'm kinda wishing HPI and others would issue a "roller series" of their chassis.
No electronics, no tires/wheels, no bodies for those that want or need to roll their own...

Any tips on making the HPI Vintage racing tire, the USVTA spec tire, a bit softer and more grippy on medium traction asphalt ?

We are allowed to use any tire traction compound.

I have played with and prefer Paragon. I have some of the Sticky Grips stuff , mostly for offroad though, and just picked up some of the yellow MuchMore goop.

Any advice would be appreciated.
