Tell us about the Mustang. Is it still black-gold? Is it a legit 350H model or a clone?

Just a note from HPI for those of you having difficulty getting a hold of vintage tires, there are 3,000 sets on the way to the distributors. If you can't find any right now—hang tight—they are on the way.

Supply and demand... demand went up and now the supply is catching up to it.

Absolutely luved the 510s since I was a kid.
Yupper, the 'Stang is all legit, researched numbers and such before purchase - happened to get it for a song before the price soared.

Now I'm hoping to make replica RC racers of each.

Can anyone tell me what kind of ratio you all are running with a 17.5 brushless?

Start with an FDR around 3.6-3.7 and work from there depending on the size and technical layout of your track. Outdoors or on a bigger track, I'd gear up a lot form there.

This is a fairly nice size asphalt track. 100x47 I figured 4 cell 17.5 would be around 3.1 or so?

Start out at around 3.65 and work your way down. I think that size track will be fine in the mid-to-high 3s FDR. On 4-cells, they just flatten out a lot the more you gear them up.

I don't know how many of you keep up with the Hacker thread here, but Hacker is looking into making a 21.5 Brushless!!! That would be awesome with a 3200mah LiPo.

I'll agree with that on the gearing. I went a little to low and lap times dropped. Was running almost the same fastest lap times as TQ, he still was driving better, but thought I go one more tooth and paid the price. Oh Well, There is next week!

I've got the 510 in my system as well. Autocrossed one in 74-76 before going road racing in of all things a Sunbeam!

Hey if your interested I still have a competition limited slip rear end that only had about 300 miles on it from autocrossing and some driving to and from. Still in the "Competion Parts Box".

PM if your interested, as I'd like it to go to Datsun Racer!!

Just to let you know, for this class, the planned USVTA 21.5/LiPo rules will only allow ROAR approved motors and LiPos in the future, and very well may only allow a Novak 21.5 as a "spec" motor. I wouldn't go out and jump on the Hacker bandwagon just yet.

Stay tuned...

IMO No problem with the "ROAR approved motors" only... don't like the idea of only Novak made motors though.

It works for the BRL... and there are two other motor/battery options here, too.

If I can run lipo, I'll run whatever brushless motor. It's a step in the logical direction. Let's not crabby about it.
