Default 21.5 vs 25.5. more feedback

At our track, we started the season with 21.5, no FDR limit. They were just a tad slower than the 17.5 rubber touring cars. I started running a 25.5 and the other racers were more than willing to go to a 5.2 FDR limit for the 21.5. I was a consistent third or fourth place runner and felt that that's where my talant level should have me. I didn't feel that the motor was holding me back at all. This last Saturday, I had a 21.5 motor in my car and the consistent front runner had switched to 25.5. Guess what. No change in the running order. In fact, I was a tad slower all day and he had a commanding lead at the end of the Main. We have found that limiting the 21.5 to a 5.2 FDR makes performance close enough that it really doesn't matter what motor you use. In the end, it's the driver that counts and I think that is what this class is all about. Now that the best driver has switched, I can see that others will follow suit and we will be able to make the transition to 25.5 by next season. Not sure what it is but the 25.5 is just a wonderful motor for these cars. Thanks RobK for having the stones to make the tough decision and stick with it. It's perfect for the spirit of the class.

By the way, for the past two weeks, the other guy to beat has been running a very tired TC-3 that he borrowed from one of the other racers. Just more proof that this is a drivers class and you don't need that $500 chassis to be competitive.

Thanks Myron for the well wishes, she broke down in the main after an inverted start as I was closing in on the leader at the 3 minute to go mark . maybe next time at the Big Rug in Indy.

looks like you'll have to send it back to novak to have the sticker properly calibrated.. otherwise I won't let you run it at my track. and I want to see a signed affidavit from Bob Novak that it's set right!

Each Ballistic is slightly different for where the timing mark lines up. What you could do is gently turn turn the endbell to each stop and scribe a mark on the endbell where the timing mark lines up. Then split the difference and that should get you close to 30*.

Default Final Drive Ratio

I don't know if this has been discussed here, but I'll ask anyway. Are the old FDR rules in effect with the new 25.5 motor? Or has it been done away with, meaning, can I run any ratio I please? Sorry, I didn't feel like searching through 10k + comments to see if this has been discussed. Thanks.

The rule is done away with but I am hearing that 4.2 is working out the best for most racers. Anyone correct me if thats not right.
