So how are things working out so far with 25.5 vs. 21.5 in the real world? How different are lap times and general feel?

Pete,

We'll definitely see what the difference is this Saturday as we are kicking off the Hurricane Series, and the local big guns should be out to race the VTA class.

My IFS-R is prep'd and ready for my VTA return .

Default FDR 21.5

I just picked up a Novak 21.5 to starting racing VTA, what would be a good starting FDR? track size 140x60 asphalt and 96x40 carpet. I know that class is switching to 25.5, but we are a little behind the times.

With the little bit of testing we did at our track, I think we found that 4.9 for the 21.5 was still a little tall. We opened up the gearing on the 25.5 and changed the 21.5 to 5.1 and we are closer. Our first race is also on Saturday, but by then I'll have my 25.5. Not sure if anyone will be running a 21.5 but I'll report back what we observed. We also have one guy running a 27t brushed motor geared at 7.0. That should be interesting.

From what I've seen so far, I like the decision to go to 25.5.

thanks for the feedback. yeah I was wondering that, one thing to consider is making sure both motors are set to 30 degrees. I know I cranked my 21.5 to 42 with the 4.2 gear to run outside. I'll find out Sunday myself as that's the first indoor race at my track.

trust me I would rather have it national rules. but I think we only have 1 25.5 in the region right now. working on a deal to trade out a bunch of motors but till that happens and people pick up on the difference they'll be pockets of 21.5 racers running around. I still had people running 27t motors this summer. they weren't fast with them it's just all they had and were lucky to have the entry fee let alone money to upgrade even as cheap as novak has made it.

I talked to Rob and the desision to go to 25.5 was the right one for the class. so know I got to lead all my horses to the water it's just going to take a little more to fret it out.

Since the UPS truck is delivering my motor and speedo on Friday and we race Saturday morning, I don't have a lot of time to figure out the gearing. Can someone recommend a starting point for a 25.5 on carpet? Our track is about 30 X 60 with about 90+ feet of wide open straight/sweeper followed by a fairly tight infield. The 21.5 that I'm pulling out of it was geared at 4.9 and was working pretty well.

Thanks

I have a JL10E and I'm thinking of running it in VTA. It's a 200MM chassis and need know if any of the legal bodies are wider in the rear. I know the HPI Cuda body is 210MM in the rear. Are there any of the other legal bodies that are wider? Thanks.

We have one of these running VTA at our track. I put it on my tweak board and noticed that it was indeed wider. He is running a Cuda body. If I hadn't put it on my board, I never would have known it was a 200mm chassis. The body seems to fit fine. I think it's safe to assume that the other bodies will fit as well but I'm not sure.
