There will only be non externally adjustable speed controls for USVTA racing

Questions??

So if you need a plug in to adjust the drag brake it will not be on the list?
Meaning the SP spot spec will not be allowed?

No meaning if you can change software, like the Tekin RS, Novak Kinetic, SP 2.0 and 2.1, the new LRPs which will be able to update firmware. Beyond that, escs which have timing advance but cannot be updated/computer controlled, are also out like the LRP SPX, SXX, TC Spec, Sp 1.1, Novak short course, etc.

The Cirtix club spec would not fall into those categories as it can't be reflashed with a computer, and has no timing, and is low priced like the Havok, LRP Ai, etc.

We're set for testing pretty much ALL day Saturday. We'll have the following specs all on the track for side-by-side comparison:

4-cell / 27T...the original spec and what we hope to get close to performance-wise.

2s / 21.5...the current spec, too fast for the original intent but on track for comparison purposes

2s / 25.5...the dark horse, cheapest "fix" if changes are forthcoming. I'm guessing it'll be closer to the 1s / 13.5 combo I tested early in the fall than the desired 4-cell / 27T level of performance, but we'll see

1s / 17.5...the combo I honestly think will be closest to the desired performance level, but I may be proven wrong

Will provide data Monday or so!

All cars are WELL sorted machines driven by veteran racers (all with 20+ years experience) and VTA racers since before there was VTA. We'll see what's what!
What ever became of this test session? I am asking because the club I race with is split between sticking with last years motor rules and switching to this years motor rule. The guys that want to stick with the old rule do not race outside the club. And the other group travels to events where the new rules will be adopted.

I guess my question is... How much of a performance difference is there between say 21.5 2s and 25.5 2s? Can the 21.5 setup be geared to allow the 25.5 to be competitive?

I was at a SJCCR event just a couple months ago where a 25.5SS won the B-main over a bunch of 21.5s. The driver was simply more consistent than the others, and the hot laps were just a tenth or two down on the 21.5 hot laps in that main. Quite frankly, had I not helped him determine a suitable FDR, I would never have known he was "underpowered"! SJCCR sticks to the 4.2FDR rule for the 21.5s, but this particular 25.5 was geared numerically below that (although I can't remember by how much).

Either way, I'm looking forward to going 25.5 with the Ballistic series motors. They have enough timing to make the 25.5 powerband enjoyable.

Just received my 25.5. Can anyone suggest a suitable starting FDR?

Two more months until the change.

Thanks

Carl.....3.8 to 3.5 is the range that we saw in testing. I would start with 3.8 and check for heat.

At my local track in London Ontario Canada we are keeping the current rules for guys who do not want to switch, and calling the class GT2. But we are adopting the 25.5 rule for the new VTA, as far as speed differential there isn't much. I ran my 21.5 with a Havoc (no timing, turbo, etc) and my fastest lap was only 3 tenths quicker than the 25.5 setup. Now if I had a turbo esc it would have been about a 1.2 secs faster on my local track. I just got a hobbywing xerun with the turbo, and I have a 25.5 on the way for VTA in Sept. It all depends on your track but I think this will be a good move for VTA because of what I have seen with a Pan Car class at my local track called SCAR, they run 25.5's and they are all on the same lap in the mains. Crazy!

I thought it was 5.2 fdr for 21.5 and 4.2 fdr on the 25.5 or is that something I just saw somewhere else.

Not under USVTA rules....it was 4.2 with 21.5 and now with the new rules in Sept. and the use of 25.5 motor there is no FDR limit.

so if I get my $350 Black Diamond ESC updated to 2.1 with the Roar spec setting I can run it in VTA?
