yeah, but i'm pretty sure that DIDN'T run in the Trans Am series - which is what the discussion on the last couple pages were about

I'd like either a cougar or javelin

There's a pretty big call for a Javelin or AMX body. I'd probably get one just because.

yeah, that seems to be the big wish item

so instead of having large fields of carmeros - we'll start seeing large field of javelins

New rule, if the top 3 run the same body, no one else can run that body. Hey, if you didn't want to change your body you should have qualified better!

Totally off0topic: There might not have been any Cutlasses in T/A, but there was at least one off-road one built and raced...crazy, eh? It wasn't a '68, but still. Owned and raced by Jim Rockford himself!

Hello VTA racers,

Based on your experiences, what chassis types is best for this class of racing?

shaft or belt drive? Carbon Fiber Chassis or composite molded?

any specific chassis type that has much success...looking ot pick-up a chassis and have a few used ones to choose from.

at the slower speeds...shaft..IMO

I run TC3 rtr chassis...and it works great

but just about any chassis will work very well with the right setup...Ive seen everything raced fro old Yoks to Traxxas 4techs, to Xray T3..and everything between and all have done pretty well...good luck

Does anyone have a list of the cars that raced TA but DO NOT have a body made for them yet? Pics too?


As for what cars work well, seeems pretty much everything does well from what i can tell. It may be beneficial for you though to go with a commonly used vehicle as you can then get advice on what works.

For me, Ultimately I wanted max durability with good VTA performance and so went with the Academy STR4 Pro II since I have ran the Pro 1 before, and the parts used are very beefy. Car works well too and I like the fact I can achieve my gearing ranges without any mods, but I am on my own with setup info unfortunately. Right now the only real issue I am having is the traction rolling from the last session when we ran in reverse direction. before that, the car was on rails., especially when I went with sway bars. I am thinking part of it could be due to the lack of weight on the lipo side of things, need to see about upping that.

From what i can tell of other cars, if you want something more current, the TC5 looks pretty good out there.

You shouldn't be allowed in VTA. You're too good!

Just about any car will work. I'm using my TC4 with a BMI chassis just because it was sitting on my shelf doing nothing anyway. The only concern you should have is strength. Have you seen the A mains at Brownies?

yeah, but others are telling me to try a few other things first prior to this, so I am thinking of doing that first. But I am keeping that option open. with two cars, can try a variety of changes first I am thinking.

Hey Carl - here's the 'off-the-top-of-my-head' listing of the chassis in the "A" main at the Slowbirds sunday (based off finishing position)

1) TC3
2) JRXS-r
3) not sure
4) tamiya Ta04 or Ta05
5) HPI PRo4
6) Kyosho Stallion (belt drive)
7) HB Black Cyclone
8) HB Cyclone S
9) HPI Pro4
10) Cyclone (i believe)

the best bang for the buck is the Cyclone S - from a brand new chassis, other then that - you know you can find good deals on older used chassis

There doesn't really seem to be a clear advantage over belt vs shaft, tub vs plate chassis

if you're only going to do it occassionally, pick up something that's cheap

speaking of cheap - if you're interested in a Tamiya TA05R with a bunch of stuff, shoot me and email

Doesn't really seem to matter much what you run. I think thats one of the draws of the class.

Most people run what ever they have sitting around, likely from giving up on some other TC class. If you don't have a TC at all already, Tamiya makes plenty of low cost TC kits that will easily fit the bill for this class.
