That said (and agreed with)...when folks have pretty well optimized their setups and are driving nice tight lines consistently, a bit more horsepower is always nice. And it doesn't take much horsepower at all to turn what had been a comparatively even match to a tilted rout when all the other factors are evened out. OR that horsepower advantage can offset a bit of tuning deficit or overcome a driving mistake. OR knowing one has a bit of a horsepower advantage in-hand one can drive a bit more cautiously in the twisty bits and keep pressure (from ahead or behind) someone who's having to drive closer to the limit to keep up and push them into a mistake.

OR...

There are about 15 other classes if you don't like this one.

or... it could exacerbate a tuning deficit, or cause a driving mistake, or you can throw off your rhythm in the twisty bits because you have extra power.

I still believe that for the vast majority of those wishing they had the magic item that would make them even or faster than the other guy really need more driving/setup skill.

But I do see your point, in some very competitive areas, I'm sure the magic ESCs (for example) can make a difference.

So what do we do?

I think if we could turn back time, if we could find a way, to keep using the abundant and cheap 27 turn, 21.5 turn, NIMH, budget lipo, and budget ESCs, that would be the way to go. I dug out some 3300s, a Paradox, and an HFX ESC and put them in a Pro2 for my sister and her car was fast enough for VTA. Touring guys that think they need to spend $$ for racing should stick to touring classes. In a couple of years or more, when turbo/timing/PFM ESCs are the norm and available at reasonable price points, maybe then revisit them.

The spirit of VTA is fun, slow, and cheap right?

DING DING DING DING DING!!!!

We have a winner!

Then again, with everybody chasin' the newest speedos (the new Advantage, the upcoming Novak is supposed to be a screamer, etc) I'm guessing the price of used Tekin RS', KO BMC's, etc are going to drop into current GTB pricing (low hundreds, maybe below) in the next 2-3 months. And GTB's will continue to fall into the $60's or so.

That said, VTA folks should be scoopin' up the cheap GTB's, not the "juiced" speedos. Makes it easier (and cheaper) for everybody.

If the rule gets written in for GTB,Havoc or no timeing Speedo Ill give away my SP GT2.0 for a GTB The only reason I got the SP is because I had it beat into my head when I started racing that if you wana be fast this is what you need and guess what everyone else was running. even the guys that were using the GTB went to Tekin or SP so what ever choice is made Ill follow. Screw the debate if Rob and Co want it to change then they will make the decision untill then im happy with what I have

This was quite disappointing to me, as have Duo 17.5 and it is THE gun stock motor to have. So naturally I bought the 21.5.........
You aren't missing out on anything....the closest motor to catching mine at my local track is the LRP version. He's only .1-.2 off my record lap, but the performance isn't as consistent over 5 minutes.
Hope this helps !

BTW, Vintage muscle cars are cool.

at the local track, we run open 21.5 BL, the top 5 cars (Epic Duo2, Tekin, Novak) basically we have the same speed and run pretty much same lap times, maybe a .1 or .2 tents off (but that is just the driving)
