Thanks to everyone for posting links on where to buy driver figures. I also appreciate the different pictures on how people are mounting the figure. While I'm still not convinced that this should be a rule, I'm warming up to the idea.

I agree with your points that it does limit the motor war issues, however, Is there more limitation needed in the ROAR rules on certain aspects of configuration of the motors to fit the Novak 21.5 standard so that other brands would be legal for USVTA?

Trying to understand based on the USVTA rules as stated what is missing from ROARs direction for other motors to be legal.

Since I also was involved with the writing of the rules for ROAR, i can tell you the main reason ROAR allows all makes of motors is their desire to avoid favoritism towards one manufacturer. You will also see that any brand tire/wheel is allowed in the ROAR rules. The caveat is that the tire/wheel must conform to the specification for size. Currently, only HPI fits these dimensions.

Similarly, they will not restrict the motors to one brand. The USVTA has no such limitations, and the fact that allowing only Novak motors has been so successful in avoiding the typical motor of the week problem, that's what is going to be the policy for the long term.

The rules for this class were based on what the USVTA found successful, not the other way around. Not matter what ROAR does, the USVTA has to stick with what works for us.

Ok. So in short I'll assume the wording of the USVTA rule in question is going to be updated to reflect the the policy that Novak 21.5 motors are only allowed, period without the ROAR reason. Just wanted to clarify for sure as the current rule seems to imply that once ROAR meets whatever unstated standard it is for the 21.5 motors to conform to, the other motors would be allowed in. And based on that, I wanted to know what was the standard that is not being met. From what I can tell from the reasons being posted, there doesn't appear to be a set standard, just a desire to avoid a motor of the week deal which is valid point.

Guys like Rick Vessel, who added sound and a Firebird nose to his car, or Chip from Al's hobbies who built a convertible for last years nats are examples of realism and race readiness.
I'm going to side with those that feel the driver/interior should be optional equipment. Appropriate for a static model, perhaps, but not necessary for adding to the realistic appearance of the cars. I'm not 100% opposed to the idea, but I'd rather not be bothered with this detail...

Besides, if realism is TRULY an issue here, you'd start with removing the Parma bodies from the approved body list; neither the Z28 or the 'Cuda resemble the cars they're supposed to represent.

I can see why you would get that impression. I think at one point in time the USVTA admin had planned on eventulally opening it up to all 21.5 motors, that were ROAR approved. I think the biggest reason that its not happening now is that so many racers are using the 21.5 and now we have discovered that there is good parity because of that and we dont want to lose it with the onslaught of duo 21.5's.

Keep in mind folks that Coolsprings and I believe Thunder RC Nashville both run an Expert VTA class that is straight national rules.
