Just sounds more logical since we all know someone went and spen $130 on the new SMC 50C lipo they just released... thats not keeping the cost low...

It a waste of money when you consider the battery will never be pushed beyond what a 25C battery can offer and more than double the run time a 21.5 needs. Its just extra weight. I'd rather weight the car like I want it and not add it via the battery.

i agree liljohn... Im just saying we both know someone went and spent $130 on the new smc 50C lipo because they saw that huge C rating....

I just hate to see the powers that be hounded with having to look into something that IMHO doesn't mean much at all. I wouldn't have a problem with a C rating cap but what happens in a year or so from now and you can't find a 30C or 40C anymore. Then we are back to a battery discussion again. If we truely want to save costs take the capacity and C rating out of it... put a cost limit on it. Many places have put cost restrictions on motors for IGT racing to keep the costs down. And I know how do you police that? That's basically why I suggested go straight with the ROAR approved batteries. Then you can take it up with ROAR if you want a battery approved. Good luck with that!

I trust Rob and the gang to either come up with something or just leave it alone. Me I'll stick with my 1 1/2 yr old Reedy 5000 20C battery till it dies or just can't keep up anymore. Then I'll stick in my backup Trakpower 4900 25C till that dies.

For anybody considering buying any battery over 30c....I ran my SMC 40c and 50c in my VTA car for 10 min...then ran my 28c packs for 10 min...with the weight the same between them...the 40 and 50c are a waste of money..I ran better lap time with my SMC 4000 28c battery than my "BIG BOY " packs.. my 2 year old Orion 3600 25c pack is still my best pack..it only lacks the "PUNCH" of the SMC 28c....

IMO the battery rule works fine the way it is...capping money wont work cause somebody can "claim" it was this or that or even free...lol

limit "C" ratings arent going to make a difference either cause the 21.5 isnt a big puller to even use the 50c...waste

and if you cant find a 5000 battery under $70 bucks...you are looking in the wrong place...my lhs sales the SMC 4100 24c for $69.99...and it awesome for VTA...tested it for a new guy about a week ago and loved it...

nice to see all the talk on the thread....good honest discussions are great for the class

I had that to happen to me as well...try some Kaboom(purlpe is nice) to clean your tires between rounds...just make sure you dry them before you put your tire traction on...

ps GT350H?...is that the black and gold..post a pic...

You missed the point of limiting the C rating, it would be to indirectly limit the cost of a new battery, as C is a big determining factor in the cost. But yes, good wholesome disagreements without yelling in bold letters will lead to better solutions down the road, and I'm whole heartedly behind that.

I'll have to take one, but yeah. turned out decent although its getting a little beat up around the front corners.

teach the racers what is or isnt going to benefit...Ive got 2-5 new racers asking a ton of ???????...and I do my best to help them by not spending extra $$$$$$....answer them with honest answers and hope they make the right choice...I would rather teach them than to "demand" them..... but we all know how that can get turned around as well...

but dont you just hate for someone to buy the wrong thing after you told them it wasnt any better than the cheaper item..and now they are all mad about it...lol...

When I first started racing VTA, I bought a used 4800 20C Orion from a friend that was about a year old at the time, but it looked like an antique and was just a tad swollen. It worked fine, and I even won some A-Mains with it. I got a good deal on a 5000 30C SMC from that same friend and tried it out for VTA.

The only difference was that the SMC provided a little extra "punch", but ONLY because I run VERY aggressive throttle profiles on my ESC. If you are running a smoother throttle profile or lower gearing than it makes no difference, speaking from personal experience.

Will that extra 5 or so millimeters my car covers launching out of a turn win me the race? NO.

Will that extra .09 or .15 volts the SMC has at the end of 5 minutes due to capacity win me the race? NO.

And putting in a more capable battery does NOT keep you from hitting the wall less! Keep that in mind!
