There will be no additional bodies allowed outside of someone coming up with the appropriate Cougar, Javelin, Firebird, etc.

If you would like to run the Corvette, I don't see why there should be a problem with that. The national rules will not change, however.

Enjoy the class, and if you see fit to make a change that works for you locally, fine. The rules are here to provide a consistent framework so racers can be on the same page everywhere. They also happen to work pretty darn well.

I can't wait to run my smokey and the bandit body I just got in... I'm the local track also!!!! so does that make me King of the King of Trans AM when he is at my track?

Thanks.

Thanks for all the input regarding this question guy's. It seems to have spurred some additional discussion but thats fine too.
To summarize and to express the decisions based on your comments:

We will allow 27t/ 2s Lipo use at our club races.
A FDR or FDR range will be suggested for those racers.

As for the body comments, I agree with those who realise this is as much a marketing effort as anything else. In that spirit we will be allowing the 67 Corvette body to be used at our club events.
The 240Z body was mentioned yet again. I don't even know if ABC is producing that body now but I don't see any reason we wouldn't allow it as long as it were wearing appropriate colors. As i said, as far as I know, ABC no longer produces the long wheelbase versions of this body but if you can find one....bring her on out.

Last. Our club will ALWAYS advocate the OFFICIAL VTA rules. These allowances will always be considered as short time situations. The eventuality is that all club members will be expected to eventually adhere to the OFFICIAL rules for club events. Get them in, support them but always toward the goal of compliance.

Any further advice is always appreciated. Thanks again All !!

I want pics and your impression of driving it - the nose looks _really_ long and I'm curious how tough that makes it to drive.

RobK - do you think you will do periodic reviews and/or updates of the legal bodies to include new bodies that become available?
I ask because the 1978 TA body nashracer refers to is an interesting example - they've made the body in two pieces - the nose is a seperate piece, and 95% of the rest of the body is the same as the 1970 TA (the back glass and taillights are different). Perhaps the company who makes it could be convinced to make a 1970 nosepiece/decal set to make a legal VTA body if they knew there was a process in place to add it to a national class. I'm such a Trans Am lover (Thirtybird is actually my car - 30th anniversary Trans Am), I'd be happy to volunteer to do the legwork of contacting the company and explaining it all if I knew it would get somewhere with the class.

The body debate again. My oh my how some things don't change.

I still love this class and it will continue to be my main class this fall. Not too slow, not too fast. Nice looking cars and better competition. Its fun to watch or be in a main where the field isn't lapped by the winner.

As far as getting more racers into the class, a funnel of sorts is needed. Its our responsibility to inform racers joining the class what's involved, be it bodies, wheels and tires, electronics, motor or chassis. The real question is how do you get the 13.5 or 17.5 (yes I know its a legal 4 cell motor) guy to try the class without dumping $150.00 on a 21.5 motor, wheels and tires and a body? Honestly, I'd like to see loaner cars at every race, but that's up to us who have spares available. I'm not talking about giving it to someone who never raced before, but someone who's truly interested in the class. I can only race one, and I've had up to 4 ready at any given time. I've even sat and watched 2 of my cars being run while I didn't race. Any time I can put my car in someone elses hands and see them enjoy themselves, I've done something right for the class and the hobby. Now as far as rules go. They are very well established. I can see if someone bought a body that didn't fit the class before they knew what they were doing, that they could run with it until they needed to replace it or could afford another is understandable, but if they started with a 67 vette and bought another 67 vette, I'd not be as understanding. It is VTA after all, not RC-SCCA or RCGT. We are trying to emulate real a real race series which does limit our choices. So be it. I'm still racing.

Now, if HPI would only do a firebird, a falcon and javelin.

for some odd reason the picture is elongated so it's not that bad. but I think it being a 200mm body does make the tires far in there. plus as the front part is a double stuck on piece I think I can make it shorter to work better. but just think how far you can mount your transponder further foward in the body

Kinda new to the whole VTA thing, reading through *some* of these pages...

So...is there a pic of this so-called '76 Pontiac Trans-Am ("Smokey and the Bandit")? I don't believe this body style ever ran in the SCCA Trans-Am Series at all...

And...can someone point me in the direction for a '70 1/2 - '73 (second-gen) Camaro? Tried to look for Pegasus online, and can't find 'em, and LHS has never heard of 'em...BUT - from what I was told at the Snowbirds this year, Pegasus' bodies aren't all that great. VERY thin in a lot of places and don't hold up to crashes...

Check out page #4 on the VTA pics and paint thread, link here (http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...on-only-4.html). There are some detailed photos of a Pegasus Camaro.

As far as durability, the HPI 'Cuda is probably the thinnest body due to how the front is molded. There are ways to reinforce the bodies (Shoe-Goo, drywall tape) that have been discussed in further length on the pics & paint thread.

Hope that info helps

If they had a '70 nose piece, I'd definitely look at it. I just don't want to go down the path of cars that are kinda like something that ran. Then everyone has an argument for anything they'd like to see legalized.
