Tonight, being wednesday, meant another points series race at MSI in SE Michigan. The racing was good and close, we had a dozen entries or so. The A main race was a hotly contested one - I was concentrating on my own race, but I could hear the crowd react as the lead swapped a couple times within the final minute or so.

Good times, but that wasn't the part of the night I will take away today. A friend (who is a seriously good driver) took the time after the race to help me by driving my car and turning timed laps with it because I was convinced it was slow. My fast lap of the night was a 13.8, and the fast lap of the class was a 12.9. My car, my battery, my radio, no changes at all, in someone elses hands on his 4th timed lap turned a 13.1 I am humbled gentlemen, I truly had my eyes opened to my own deficiencies and areas I need to work on - I take it away as a positive thing - that and I'm pretty proud of the cars set-up now (which I can take credit for). However, Practice, practice, practice

Typically at Indy Slots on Friday Nights, the winner of a lower main bumps up. Because of the compressed schedule (2 heats/1 main), you have additional chances to make the A-main if you had bad qualifying. It also is a bonus for less experienced drivers to earn their way into the A-main. For some of our drivers, just making the A-main has made their night.

Last Friday we had 24 drivers and to mix things up the racer director set 6 cars in the Mains (6 cars x 4 mains = 24 total entries) and we bumped the top 2 cars to give us a field of 8 cars in the A-C mains. It actually worked out quite well and it gave a few different drivers a shot at racing in a higher main than they normally would.

Here are some misc. stats that I posted on our track forum.

----------

Did you know the following information about VTA racing at Indy Slots?

- 78 different racers since June 2008? (47 weeks)
- 52 different racers in 2009 (18 weeks)
- 23 different racers in the A-main in 2009 (average 8 car mains)
- 22 average racers over the past 10 weeks (220 total)
- 07 different racers name Chris have raced
- 04 different racers named Bob or Steve have raced
- 02 rounds of on-road racing every Friday night
- #1 place for VTA racing in Central Indiana!

I was only 6 seconds from bumping from the D to the A. Racing 4 mains in one night (3 VTA and one 17.5/Foam) was a bit more than i could handle. I'm gonna have to qualify higher next time.

I wasn't expecting the bump ups, but it was nice! I wouldn't want to count on it every week, though.

Default TC Gearing question

Hi there, just bought a cyclone TC gonna run some asphalt this summer. Can anybody help me with gearing. Gonna run a 17.5 with a 5200 LiPo 40C. The drive is 2.167 right? Should I b around 4.0? Like 48/88?

Hey Franzey,

Yeah I would start wit around 4.0. depending on the size of the track.
did you know that the legal motor with the lipo is the novak 21.5 otherwise your supposed to use 4 cell with the 17.5/27t.

If your'e going to be at LIR Fri. we can talk then.

Thats assuming you are going to run VTA which is the subject for this thread. If you are planning on running stock then the 17.5 is a good choice, but I would make sure the locals arent running 13.5 first.

i ran 4cell novak 17.5 full timing on a gtb with a 3.33 to 3.50 fdr and it stayed cool to take the GA state top gun race last year.

thats with 4cell...he has a lipo...if your track allows it...goto this link and it will get your FDR as even as VTA's...but keep in mind that your track will have the final say in this....and at USVTA events its NOT legal...but it does work with the national rules as far as being even....
