Too bad we don't know exactly what equipment the A-Main drivers at the VTA nats were using. It would go a long way in disproving that you need the latest chassis and best electronics to do well in VTA. We can't continue to tell new drivers that any car & any electronics can compete when top drivers in the class may be using the latest and greatest.

I would ask everyone to re-read this following section of the rules below:
Quote:
MOST IMPORTANTLY: If it's not in the rules, and does not encompass the spirit of slower, controlled racing with realistic looking cars, consider it illegal. This is called the "Spirit of VTA" Rule. The class is based on slower, equal playing field competition with less traction, minimal aerodynamic aids and mostly older carpet racing technology. The final objective is close, fair, wheel-to-wheel racing for all. All decisions of the race promoter or track owner are final.
I'll close by saying that I feel that setup and driving are the most important things in VTA. However, lets not forget that we want everyone to experience the close, fair, wheel-to-wheel racing.

This is what I was talking about before....I know Rutt's car was faster then my car on the straight and has been for the past month or so every time we race.

I corrected my info. I should have a setup sheet in a day or two also for anyone that runs the E4. My car was the best it's been for T/A.

Kevin-- I am also using SPX Speedo.

For balancing the car I personally use pins in the center front and rear of the chassis.

Well as far as getting the car to stay flat I am not sure that they are. As soft as I was running my car its going to roll. My front tires were rubbing the hood from rolling over. A car appears to be leaning and rolling to much when a driver over shoots the turn with the front wheels cranked to try and make the racing line. This can also cause a traction roll because the entry speed into the corner is to much.

Has for set up help (to the guys with TC5) I know several guys with TC5's that are running Josh Holnstiens set up I believe its posted on the TC5 thread. It is a long way from the box stock setup. They have all said it works good for them.

If anyone has a good set up for Xray 08 euro spec model I would love to try it out. It will be the cars first race this weekend on the rug, after that we go asphalt for the season locally.

Updated Tim Ski's info for the A. I can also add that Ken McKinney got bumped from the A the last round and qualified 13th (B main). He runs an Xray T1 FK04, LRP but not the SPX, IB5000 lipo.

Is there something to the Assasin in VTA? I have heard that the direct set up really transfers power effeciently with the slower powertrains. To bad they are so hard to come by. And expensive.

SnoopyRC....Well Brad was racing one in the early part of the day then broke the Diff and didnt have any parts to fix it so for the mains he went and changed over to his PHI rubber tire car that he had and went faster with his PHI then he did with his Assisan.....so again this is just one of the myths that is out there....much like the great ESC debate.

Having run a rent a ride Assassin at the snowbirds, I can tell you the car is a missile in a straight line. However, the strange balance because of the motor being so far back in the car is very problematic. It wants to traction roll and push at the same time. I have used brakes in some corners with a one way. It is also very throttle sensitive on the steering, meaning if you are a bit to hot in a corner, it will push out badly. The next lap, it will almost have too much steering if you come in too slow.

To be honest, I wish I would have just run my TC5.

As I have said before, I am still not sure about the advantage of certain speed controls. Mike from indiana blew past me on the straight, as he said on his post. I was dumbfounded at how fast his car was with the Tekin. Rutt was not lacking in HP with his Havok. Kevin K was 2nd qualifier I think, with a Speedpassion 1.1. Brad ran an SPX, but i think he could have run just about anything and he would have been fast.

I cant help but think that some of this equipment myth comes from dogs and screamers. What I mean by that is back in the brushed days you could take twenty stock motors, or for that matter Mabuchi's, and one of them would significantly outperform the rest of them. You would also have a couple of dogs in the bunch. So could the same be said for brushless Novaks and for speed controls? Could one Tekin RS happen to turn out better than the rest of the lot?
