Well, any 1/10 AWD touring car will work. It just won't necessarily be optimal, and as has been pointed out the gearing is why. I don't know anything about the TL-01, but I know I got my TB-02 to work great and it also has only 4 positions on the motor mount. The key was that it came with an adapter that allows the use of standard spurs, and I calculated a 64p combo that gave me the correct FDR for 21.5 brushless. Perhaps the TL-01 has this ability as well.

TL-01 does not have the ability to use a spur gear adapter.

Terry, did a quick search on your posts and it looks like you own a TL-01 and a TT-01. Of the 2 cars the TT-01 is perfectly capable of racing in the VTA class. Not only does a TT-01 race regularly at my local track, but a TT-01R has beaten me to win the A main.

Gearing a TT-01 with the Tamiya spurs is the main issue with racing it in VTA. If you are racing with 4-cell/stock combo you should be able to easily find a gear ratio that will work at your track. Here is a chart that you will find useful.

http://www.rctech.net/forum/attachme...um-pinions.jpg

If you are running the 21.5/Lipo combo you will need to either modify a F201 gear to fit the drive train or modify the drive train to use regular 64 pitch gears. I believe the TT-01 uses .6 pitch gears. If you want additional info on racing at TT-01, I suggest looking at the TT-01 thread here on RCTECH.NET (http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...-01-forum.html)

The HPI Sprint 2 is a good car for VTA. Unfortunately the motor that comes with the Flux version is not legal for VTA. I'm also not sure if the speed control will work with a sensored brushless motor

Let me say that at my home track that we've seen quite a few different chassis race in the VTA class. I realize to less experienced racers that when we say any 4wd touring car that it may seem misleading. Even though not all cars sold in hobby shops are race worthy, most (if not all) of the electric 4wd cars that you can buy can be raced in VTA. Here is a list of cars that I've seen race successfully and all have been capable of making an A-main for our club racing. At the hands of good driver all of the cars on this list have or could have won the A-main.

Associated TC3
Associated TC4
Associated TC5
Corally RDX
HPI RS4 Pro
HPI RS4 Pro 2
HPI RS4 Pro 3
HPI RS4 Pro 4
HPI Sprint 2
Losi JRX-S
Losi JRX-S Type R
Losi XXX-S
Tamiya TB EVO IV
Tamiya TT-01
Xray T2

The best part of this class is that you can be competitive with an older chassis.

If I had to start from scratch, I'd look for a used TA-05 plastic tub chassis or a TC3 or TC4. Parts for both are still around and in good supply. If you insist on new, try a Cyclone S or Team Magic E4JS. Both would work well.

with the TT-01 I have been able to make a spur gear adapter to be able to use 64 pitch gears and have almost an unlimited amount of gearing. If you search the TT-01 thread you will see my posts on how I made it and what gear combos work for 64 pitch gears.

How many VTA racers in the Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin area planning on attending race #2 of the USVTA Great Lakes Super Series at Summit Raceway in Ft. Wayne, IN on Sunday December 14, 2008?

We should have no less than 4 and as many as 8+ racers from Indy Slots heading up to race.

Check out this thread on RCTECH.NET for additional information (http://www.rctech.net/forum/electric...er-series.html)

...I forget, what's the trans/gear ratio on a TC3?

2.5:1?

The funny thing is that the only thing it changes is already permissible under USVTA rules anyway.

Someone's vain attempt at trying to hijack the class. Very Sad.
