Mike, I don't think that would be a short term problem. That is unless you lap the field more than once....lol

I've been running Orion 3600 Lipo batteries in my VTA. Last night I tried an Orion 2400 Lipo in a 5 minute qualifier. Lap times between the 3600 and 2400 were very close. For anyone wanting to pickup a decent inexpensive Lipo this might be a good option for VTA club racing. Tower Hobbies lists this battery at $34.99 (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXVCD4&P=7). I didn't run the 2400 in the 8 minute main, but based on recharging it after racing, there shouldn't be a problem making run time. The upside for me is that the 2400 fits perfectly in a stick pack chassis like a Mini-Cooper and is TCS legal.

Hopefully I don't sound like a commercial, but for a racer wanting to buy new electronics and run the 21.5/lipo combo you should be able to pickup the new Novak Havok/21.5 combo for $150 and a Orion 2400 for $35 which is less than $200 total. I'll add that there is no need to buy new and you can find great deals on used electronics locally and online.

Good find - downside, Tower says out of stock until Dec

BUt still a good deal - especially since it fits the M03 chassis

I have 2 brand new Orion 2400s if anyone wants one. I as planning to use them in a drag car, but with my (real) racing plans changing, I don't need them at all. Anyone who wants one, they are $30 plus USPP shipping, and both for $65 shipped. PM me here if you are interested.

Sorry for the ad, but it's a great way to get into LiPos CHEAP.

Because of the fixed gearing of the TL-01 you will never get a low enough FDR to be fast enough to compete in TA. Even with the Speed tuned gear set and a 23 tooth pinion you only get to the low 5's for an FDR.

4 cell 17.5 they are running FDR's in the high 3's, and with a 21.5 you would have to be a 4.2 or higher

To make the TL-01 work you would have to make a 4 cell stick pack and find a way to make it stay in the car. You could use the TL-01 if you run a 27t motor. you should be able to get a FDR low enough with the TL-01. With a 27t you can be between 5.3 and 6.0.

Some of the Tamiya cars will not make good T/A cars because of limited fixed gearing they have.

Your best bet is to find a cheap touring car used online. there are many that you can find that will be below $100.

There is nothing stopping you from using the TL-01 but you will not have enough straight away speed to keep up.

I am a newbi and I like get in on this Vintage Trans-Am Racing.
I was looking at HPI web site and I see that HPI has a new Sprint
2 Flux out for Trans AM racing. Does anyone know if this Sprint 2
Flux is good? I want to buy the unit from HPI and start racing. I
want to look around and see if I can get it from some one else,
before I order it from HPI. I found the web site U.S. Vintage Trans-Am
Racing and got the rules. I like to know if I can use a diffrent chassic
intend of the one that comes with the HPI unit? Thank you Tim Hill

Default chassis

the answer is in the rules. Any 4wd tc chassis as i understand it. look for a used TC3 or TC4 on the net. they are cheap and parts are easy to fined. there is also plenty of set up information on the net as well.

I guess guys need to be careful saying "ANY" tc will work in VTA. Guys who have no racing experience what so ever will not fully understand there are SOME CARS that probably won't compete because they really have no ability to easily change ratios.

Even the TC3's and TC4's on our track are difficult to gear...not a problem we slow the fast guys down as needed.

Our old HPI Pro2 flys compared to our TC3's, but myself I prefer to drive the TC3 for handling. (My son LOVES the old Pro2, and would like another one CHEAP)
