To be honest, i'm not that thrilled about it.
I wouldn't be either.

My opinion, if anyone cares, after organizing TA races for a while now and racing myself, is if a place or person isn't following the USVTA rules in terms of power plant in vehicles, they ain't really racing TA. They are running essentially stock rubber class with vintage tires and wheels on their cars.

the added speed six cells or 7.4 LiPo with anything but a 21.5 turns that car into a whole other class of racing.

The way I see it none of the cars should be going any faster than about 21-25 MPH max.

Does anyone have any experience in running that combo? Frankly, i was looking forward to the 21.5/lipo because i have a 13.5 now and it is CRAZY fast. As a new racer, i'm not coordinated enough to handle that. Will the 17.5 be a significant step down in speed? As far as i know, there's no FDR limit. Fortunately i didn't buy a 21.5 yet or else i'd be CHAPPED.
The 17.5 is still pretty fast. One of the guys last sunday wanted to run a lipo w/ 17.5, since he was unsure about his 4 cell packs, and he kept dialing back the gear to slow the car to an appropriate speed. I think he wound up at like 6.5 or so, but his car still JUMPED out of the corners, much more rip than the other cars. On the straight, some of the 4 cell cars actually topped out faster, but 17.5 lipo will be pretty fast if you have an open gear rule..

No we didn't change we still run 13.5/lipo in vintage at Superior. I know they usually follow the fseara rules, but they started the Summer Sizzler points series before they changed to 17.5. I asked a few people and they were unsure if Superior would change to the 17.5. I'm not to sure about the 17.5 on that big layout but I guess time will tell. Also there is a 5.0 FDR limit in the series.

Uh...do a quick check for me on how many "ROAR-legal" 21.5's there are. Novak or otherwise? There is no ROAR class for this motor spec therefore there is no ROAR homologation. Thus the correct answer to the questions is "zero".

A buddy and I were debating the "Novak-only" edict the other evening until I happened to think of this. Not that I think it would be a problem, but there really isn't any homologation for ANY 21.5 motors. In light of that I 100% agree with the one-make rule, even though I thoroughly disagree with the brushless/lipo direction of the class as a whole.

Roar is considering the 21.5 for oval classes, but i don't know if that is official yet. I believe the SouthWest tour for oval racing runs the 21.5 with lipo as an equivalent to stock motor 4 cell???

You guys are correct with why the novak only for the 21.5 ( cause there is no "roar legal" motors for 21.5 But if what rob said is true and roar does approave 21.5 for oval and there are exact specs for the 21.5 and other motors meet the specs ** i am sure at that time apexspeed will think about changing the rules ** <---- my opinion only, not from the man himself.

yeah i was wondering about the same thing as far as the 21.5 goes...not a huge fan of novak and i know speed passion is about to launch their 21.5 motor

I'm pretty sure it will remain novak only...less headaches for organizers

That would be a mistake. Note that the 17.5 option isn't limited to one mfr. I use exclusively Novak BL motors so it doesn't affect me either way, but to limit one class when the other isn't would be showing even more short-sightedness than has been the norm.

If ROAR begins to do 21.5 approvals the ROAR spec should be followed, just like 17.5.

Also (geez i have 4 posts in a day???) If you are near Chicago, the Strictly RC Asphalt Assault will be July 26-27. Trans AM is a featured class. There were 15 cars last Sunday, so it should be a good crowd.
