After recently getting back into RC through the Slash I bought my son, I'd like to say it's nice to read about this class taking off after being out of the hobby for so long.

I used to race at 'The Track' here in MD and there were a lot of good sponsored racers there, such as Andrew Grey.

Those guys had the money and the time. I remember them turning armatures on the lathes every race, dynoing motors etc... It was just too hard to keep up, even if I could have gotten my driving skill up close to theirs, there was just too much more to it than just skill.

Not saying I could ever compete with their driving skill, but it would have been nice to have to compete with only the skill and much less on setup, and money thrown into the car.

‘The Track’ also had a F1 class that had a club motor that leveled out the field really well. Even some of the guys that smoked me in 4wd sedan, I kept up with and beat on occasion.

This new class and the new 1/18th class having me seriously looking at coming back knowing that it’s more about skill and fun, then money.

This is the future

I need help locating the gears I would need to gear a TC3 down to a 4.3 FDR for the 21.5/Lipo set-up.

I can find 64P 88T spurs but cannot locate a 51T pinion.

I could even use a 48P 66T spur with a 38T pinion.

Does anyone know where these could be found?

I forgot about Precision Racing Systems. Ordered a 52T pinion and 88T spur, so that gives me a 4.23 FDR in my TC3.

that's the million dollar question I know I asked Andyh EVERY chance I had at the NJ HPI challenege about more bodies so i'd have to believe that once or twice he got the impression i was serious

I'm assuming once they can get something reasonable with the manufacturers licensing, then we'll see some more...I'd still like to see a Javlin or a Matador

Had a chance to get robk to setup my car. Night and day difference. Thanks, robk. He must have seen my offroad background with the ride height I had on it.

I had it (xxx-s) geared at about 4.296 FDR with a Robinson 46 and a 108 spur (1.83 internal) --> 108/46 * 1.83 ~ 4.296. It was fine. Not much different than when I had a 44 robinson.

Also, there is a HPI 50-tooth that can be ordered if 50 is good enough.

Thanks, but that would give a 4.4 FDR with the 88. I will keep that in mind if the motor runs hot with the 52.

I ran with a 4.49 last week and thought it was alright, too.

I recently emailed HPI about an AMC body. Not sure who responded from customer support, but their response is below. My best suggestion for anyone who wants a new body created is to contact HPI and let them know there is demand. I would not rely on forum posts to carry as much weight as calls/emails directly to HPI.

"Hello Brian,

Unfortunately it’s a very long and expensive process to make a mold and release a body. But I would be more than happy to put in a customer request.

Does anyone have any experience in running that combo? Frankly, i was looking forward to the 21.5/lipo because i have a 13.5 now and it is CRAZY fast. As a new racer, i'm not coordinated enough to handle that. Will the 17.5 be a significant step down in speed? As far as i know, there's no FDR limit. Fortunately i didn't buy a 21.5 yet or else i'd be CHAPPED.
I thought at Superior they were running 13.5/6 cell in the Vintage class. Did they change?

Check out www.fseara.org

For the 08-09 season they are going to run 17.5/lipo. Check the rules link to the left of the main page.

Now, if you follow the FSEARA 2009 thread in the Florida regional section it seemed as though they were going to follow the USVTA rules 100%. Somewhere that changed though and they are going with 17.5 instead of 21.5

To be honest, i'm not that thrilled about it.
