I'm happy with ROAR's decision.
Scrubb,
I'm not arguing for faster stock motors. I agree that stock needs to be slowed down. What I am arguing for is letting brushless stock be faster than brushed. To slow down stock requires a different solution. Read post 450 at the bottom of page 15 in this thread for my thoughts on that. The point is with this solution brushed is faster than brushless, the natural inclination of newer racers will be to use any legal advantage to gain speed thus promoting brushed technology and not slowing stock down at all anyway.

at our local track the 13.5 sintered was running exactly like a 19turn brushed [both 241 seconds & 67 laps] so i agree that the 13.5 is like a 19 turn brushed in oval, just curious how close the 17.5 is.
Thanks Jake,
My point could not be made more eloquently.

Thug and Vern...you are both obviously new racers. All I can say is chill out and just watch what happens. Maybe not for the carpet nats but certainly for the asphalt nats 17.5 will be as fast or faster than 27T BR.

The ROAR BL rules are a good start but there is still a ton of design freedom in the rules for the spec motors. Consider the current 17.5's 1st generation. The fully ROAR legal 17.5's coming out in a few weeks will be updated for more power....trust me

Every time there is a change like this some one freaks out and says this or that was a bad idea. Just sit back, and see what happens.

I agree with Adrian, roar worked with and thru the major mfgs of brushless motors as they came up with the new rules, Im guessing they know more about the 17.5 potential than we do at this time.....

Nothing but gospel here fellas.

Adrian: who else is coming out with 17.5's in the next few weeks (things can get very interesting)

he will also quote "linger" but take the quote of of context. we wouldn't have minded except he had convince a couple of newbies to lipo to do it also and we felt that was a problem. at least one went back to "normal" charging

i for one, would have no issues with running a midnight 2 against a co27 any day, any track. that motor still rocks.

AdrianM,
I'm not a new racer. Read post 450 bottom of page 15. Does your claim possess anything but speculation as a foundation. I understand brushless fairly well and barring the changes I suggested earlier I know of no other dramatic improvements.

I think there will probably be at least 4 legal 17.5 motor before the Carpet Nats - LRP and Novak for sure, and I am guessing Speed Passion and Losi.

I'd like to thank ROAR, and its members on coming up with a very workable solution for the BR/BL, NiMh/LiPo issues. Also for coming on this forum and listening to what the general puplic is looking for (in most cases), I think you, Dawn and Rick really did a fantastic job, please keep up the great work.

I also believe what Adrian (and others) are saying is true, give the 17.5 a little time and it will be developed into a better motor as well, in any matter, why should this be a issue, if everyone is going to be running one, there really shouldn't be a performance advantage.

What we have found is a good brushed 19turn is comparable to a 10.5 in sedan.... However in oval the 10.5 seems to be a bit of an unfair advantage.

13.5 superstock 2009 class? I don't know if thats a great idea. It would make it a harder transition to mod. As it is the guys running 19/10.5 around here in the onroad ranks don't really have to learn throttle control to be on pace. Imagine what it will do when you go from something that runs similar to a stock motor and throw them in mod lol Guess I will only run mod in 2009 then lol

I don't know about the offroad side electric. But a slow freight train can be fun, but a FAST freight train is EVEN MORE fun lol please keep spec mod 10.5.. I also have way to many 10.5's to go buy a buncha 13.5's just to keep running specmod next season (2009).
