Guys-- I think you need to give ROAR a little time to formally write up the rules. I believe (not an expert and have not seen the final rules) but there will more then likely be an inductance range which the motor will need to fall within to make it legal for a "stock or super stock" race. It would be nice to have the wind impression stamped on a part of the motor that cannot be removed from the wind. Maybe the motor plate interface of the motor kind of where they put the ROAR stamp on current brushed motors? This will be interesting to see how the tech stuff plays out. To tech with an inductance meter you need to take the rotor out for accurate measurements. It is not hard to do but not as easy as looking in the can for a tag and feeling the end of the arm for a step or a taper. (step = 19T taper = 27T in the rebuildable motor world)

I think we have just seen the first step foward with this stuff. As more time is run with the new format things will be tweaked. The current brushed rules have evolved over 20+ years of racing. This stuff does not happen overnight. There will be issues and unavoidable growning pains. I do applaud Dawn and the ROAR commitee for taking on this issue in a short time period after Dawn was returned to the helm and get this issue taken care of early on this year. There will be a lot of learning this year I think.

Wow, the decision is made and everybody seems to be happy, this is a historic day... Not because Lipo and Brushless are legal but everybody seems to be happy! LOL!

In all seriousness though I'm very happy to see ROAR take this step forward, I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision but you came through! Thanks Dawn!

So I guess we should have record turnouts for all electric national events since nobody has an excuse anymore?

Ah, I had forgot about that one. 2009 rules must include free airfare for all racers.

Yes....

And about the history thing... This Executive Committee as a whole has taken Brushless rules and Lipo rules from pretty much nothing one month ago and made it into something that I am right now formatting into the 2008 rule book. 30 days.....

We should all thank David Lee, Ruben Benitez, Andrew Mowery, Carl Giordano and Rick Wilson for these efforts..... and out side the Excom... please, a huge thanks goes to the BL MFG's for their year long research study on how and what and where we need to do this and Ling Tong and Shawn Palmer for their research and guidance with Lipo technology.

All I did was crack the proverbial whip.... LOL

Default 12.5mm rotor limit

From another thread:

therefore, 12.51 is the max and 12.29 is the min

settled?

That is a good decision. Get those 13mm rotors on ebay asap

I have a concern about droping the 10.5 for 2009. 10.5 would be a great replacement for mod.

So there would end up just 17.5/27 and 10.5/19 and no mod class.

With mod being disjointed on an international level and national organisations admiting it is/was not working. Is it not time to open our eyes to the fact that 19/10.5 is fast enough to phase it out.

The uk 5 cell class has opened a pandoras box of future problems.

The brca are still deciding on the national spec class. It is 10.5/19 but other than that we don't know.

So for 2008 uk national there will just be 10.5/19 and Mod.

If clubs want to run different spec motors that is up to them.

In both the US and UK there will still be plenty of clubs running 13.5

The 13mm Novak rotors are AWESOME in their mod motors. Makes them just as fast or faster than LRP mod motors
