Default HPI Rally Car w/ 2 Speed. Yes, 2 Speed

I've got this fun little project car you've gotta see. It's an old HPI Rally car, upgraded with a 10-turn Speed Gem motor and a 2-Speed transmission. It is jut the funniest damned thing to hear an electric car hit second speed. Unfortunately this car drains the snot out of a 3000MAH battery faster than you can say, that's cool. But hey, it's fun to show off with. Check it out.....

My dad used to run a Pro 2 with a 2speed. The sound of it clicking in was awesome. It wasn't really practical on a track though.

It was a shame that the electric 2-speed never really took off to sell and support well, but it did mean I was able to get enough parts to put one together for my old RS4 Mini Never did get it right for racing, but it was great to show off in the pits at SoCal!

I do have tested the 2 speed kit in my rs4 rally, it was a blast for bashing around. Not too good for racing, maybe because electric motors have a very wide power band, but anyway very fun to use.

Great idea. I just shot the vid, I'll load it up later tonight and post the link here. I hope it picked up the shift point on the audio. It is so funny to hear it.

I remember back in the day when 2 speed trannys were legal for modified sedan racing.

This is wicked. This is the first time I ever seen a 2-speed EP car in action.

I can't see why there isn't an application for them still even today where people are burning up their motors by over gearing yet still want the top end thrills.

IMO I could see first gear being very short to help get the car going easier (as well as drawing less peak and overall amps from a dig) and then before we heat up the motor due to under gearing the taller gear would kick it and keep it back in the rpm efficiency window.

Why hasn't anybody pointed this out? The easier the acceleration the better the efficiencies?
